McQueen's McQ F/W 06.07

I've been meaning to comment on this. As others have mentioned, there are individual pieces that I'd pick up if the price is right, but unlike the mainline, I'm not seeing many total looks that are covetable.

Like Mutterlein, I was hoping this would be, at least in part, a way to get some pieces that look similar to the mainline, but that lack some of the expensive detailing. Maybe not recreations of old looks, but something a little bit more romantic. For the time being I think I'm better of hoping to score some deals on pieces from the regular collections.

The women's stuff--- especially some of the skirts look better than just about anything in the men's line.

As seeing_double mentioned, some of the shirts are VERY Vikor and Rolf. I'm not a big fan of either.

Its kinda blah...i hope he doesnt continue like this i would like a bigger range of clothing

this collection dosent look anything like the work he's done over the years. although it's marketed toward a younger crowd (myself included) it just dosen't have the twisted mcqueen charm.

Mutterlein said:
Balenciaga has several lines actually. A diffusion one even *gasp*. They have a line that is similar to Raf by Raf Simons which consists of past collection's best ellers reproduced in cheaper fabrics, it's a line of basics to build a wardrobe with.

There is also Balenciaga Edition which is reissues of orginal Cristobal Balenciaga's garments slightly updated by Ghesquire for today.

This idea is not a bad idea, I wish Mcqueen had gone with what Balenciaga did, referencing past bestsellers for a line full of affordable basics, than this mish mash of bad Diesel alternatives.

Mutterlein, when you say "gasp" do you talk about Pencil & Knits or is t*t another one? And Balenciaga le dix? there are so many collections, but pencil & knits no longer exists right?

I know it is a McQ thread but the parallel and the different possibilities for a second line are interesting!

in one of my magazines somewhere there is a feature about the 70's punk and how it influenced the way people dress. I can't quite remember where i put it, but this McQ line is an exact replica of what people had on in the photos for the feature. It's not a look that i like anyway so maybe i'm biased, but i find that thirty years on this whole style's just a little bland and uninteresting

EDIT: i forgot to say that the photos i mentioned from that article are original pictures from the time, not recreations

(NEW YORK) July may mean swimsuit season for some magazines, but not for Glamour—the glossy’s summer issue has Uma Thurman on the cover, and a giant feature inside on Alexander McQueen. Showing his new secondary line, McQ, the piece takes readers behind the scenes to the designer’s London studio, and comes with a fashion shoot starring Alexandra Richards, a McQueen muse.
Among the fashion nuggets revealed in the upcoming article are McQueen’s ad campaign strategy, which involved asking people on the street to pose in his new clothes, and his unlikely inspirations for the new line—Christina Ricci in Buffalo 66 and Roseanna Arquette from the ‘90s. The story also reveals style tips from Richards, including her love of all things denim (surprise).
As for behind-the-scenes dish, writer Alexandra Marshall did get to peek into McQueen’s slightly secret reference library, which houses heaps of fashion and film history books. She also had to slow her transcription tape down—apparently Isabella Blow’s golden child talks very fast when excited, and also giggles profusely…

MCQUEEN RETURNS TO LONDON
spacer.gif
ALEXANDER MCQUEEN is coming back to the London catwalk. The British designer, who took his mainline to Paris in 2001, is planning to show his new McQ label in London from next year. But expect the unexpected. "I can't have people walking down the street with a big McQ [logo] on them," he says. "It's vile, innit? I won't put my name over everything just to bring in millions of pounds. It would do more harm in the long run." Instead, it's a brand new label for both men and women that is bound for no less than cult status. "It's got all the McQueen elements, but it's also true to itself," the designer tells Claudia Croft of Style magazine. "There's a part of me that is very couture and a part of me that is very street. The main line is more conceptual, this is more cinematic. It's inspired by my favourite underground films. I love road movies, like Buffalo '66 and Paris, Texas, [and] London music, like goth and rockability – it's the roots of the culture I was brought up in." What it won't be is a reworked version of the main line. "We look through the archives but I won't reinterpret last season's collection," he says. "I pick pieces that I feel are relevant." And it won't be followed up by a McQ scent, either. "I don’t' think people who wear McQ wear perfume," he says. "They smell of the pub and a lot more." (June 12 2006, AM)

Alexander McQueen is f--kin' awesome, I love how he says he's part couture and part street... that's what I like about certain labels... and the skinny jeans look great...
