Melania Trump

Come on, monstrous? Horrendous? The furthest thing from being stylish? If you're calling HER those things, fair enough. But this particular outfit?

You don't have to care for the outfit she wore (I love the hat, the rest is well tailored but too nondescript to have a strong opinion about) and you certainly don't have to like her, but such overstated critiques of her look have little to do with the clothes, that much is clear.

I must’ve missed the point of the forum - expressing personal opinions that don’t necessarily align with that of others. What’s scary is that you took it a little too personal, and it wasn’t even addressed to you..?

Melania is definitely our second best-dressed First Lady after Mrs. Jacqueline Onassis, but unlike Jackie O I don't predict Melania changing the American Fashion landscape and I wouldn't call her a "fashion icon". She just has good taste and a tall, slim figure, but I don't see women clamoring to get the "Melania Look" like they were for the "Jackie Look."

Of course, you can and should express your opinion. Engaging with one another's opinions is also the point of a forum. You made such hyperbolic statements about a simple, fitted navy blue coat that it felt to me like you wanted people to engage with your posts.

Though I don't care for Melania, I'm always sort of annoyed when people judge an outfit, a magazine cover, a fashion campaign, etc. based on personal feelings about a person involved rather than the actual clothes, photographs, or any visual characteristics - but try to pass it off as a more objective take. I see Melania's outfit as, at worst, uninspired/boring but I don't see how in any universe what she's wearing is monstrous. As I said above, if you find HER to be monstrous, that's one thing. I'm not taking it personally, that's the difference between us in this particular instance. My stated opinion on her outfit today is just about her clothes. The reverse annoys me (and probably everyone else) too. When one loves some celebrity or fashion girlie so much that every basic outfit they throw on is praised to high heavens. And that's why I also countered someone calling her a style icon a few posts above yours. Even though I think she always looks good, she doesn't have a recognizable, unique, or influential enough "look" to be considered anything close to a style icon, in my book.

I started yawning at your essay after your rather attention seeking attempt to blame me for wanting people to engage with my posts. Thank you for the laugh! :)

Not everyone thinks so deeply about Melania wearing a bland coat and looking like a parody in that hat. None of this matters in the grand scheme of things. It’s a lighthearted forum about all things fashion, and , perhaps, you should reconsider your reaction to other people expressing their opinions. An opinion, that wasn’t even about you. At all. Think about that

First time she made 60s Jackie Kennedy cosplay...and now she made 80s Nancy Reagan cosplay...groundbreaking!

The fashion and media elites' desperate refusal to at least acknowledge her style (forget about endorsing or praising it) is but one example of why they've lost all credibility. She, obviously, always look impeccable. The inauguration look is iconic. I love how she's able to be so understated yet bold.
