Meredith Melling Burke Exiting Vogue

EXITING VOGUE:
Meredith Melling Burke is one of Vogue’s most visible editors, a fixture on television and always game to offer a quote to the occasional New York Times Styles piece. The senior market editor was just on NBC’s “Today” show Tuesday morning plugging a budget style guide on the magazine's Web site. “What we’ve done is we’ve taken the aspirational fashion from the pages of Vogue and made it totally accessible,” she said.

But the appearance was one of her last in the service of Vogue, the magazine that’s employed her since 1997. Looking to raise her profile once more, Burke gave notice before New York Fashion Week so that she could pursue a new venture she’s forming with another Vogue staffer, bookings editor Valerie Boster. Burke said she’ll offer more details about their project in the coming weeks but declined to elaborate further.

“We have learned so much in our combined 25 years at Vogue, and look forward to applying this knowledge to our new venture,” Burke said. The two editors are tying up loose ends at the magazine — they sat out the European shows — and will be listed on the masthead for the last time in the November issue. Burke’s duties will be split between four staffers, including Selby Drummond, accessories editor, and Jessica Sailer, market editor; and Cynthia Smith and Kelly Connor, who have both been promoted to market editor. Boster will be succeeded by Helena Suric, a model manager at DNA Models.

Virginia Smith, the fashion market and accessories director, described Burke’s and Boster’s contributions to the magazine as “invaluable.” Vogue did not say who’ll replace Burke as the magazine’s friendly face on the morning shows, though there’s talent eagerly awaiting in the wings.

Interesting, the change of booking editor will hopefully mean some changes in the casting of their regulars.
