Michael Rider - Designer, Creative Director of Celine

^ this is one of the most untalented men at the helm of two important brands. He has not delivered one good collection nor campaign.

He put Fendi in a new low and Dior is just now a brand which does collaboration after collaboration to hide the fact that he is useless.
Then maybe you'll be happy to hear that his contract at Fendi is expired and was not renewed.

Changemakers in Business: Defining Timeless Style–the Past, Present, and Future of Ralph Lauren

a small discussion video michael rider did while at RL

I hope he re-establishes the accented é. .........they will have to change all the packaging and labels and storefronts is an unnecessary expense without guarantee of him bring further success to the brand he won't be aloud for a few years to to this as Saint Laurent.

You must know but forgot lol .....Celine had many years also no accent 70´s 80´s even 90's it's not a Hedi invention stop giving him so much created for something already part of the brand history.

That’s why i’m not so gutted with its removal. Hedi himself credited this era as the justification for removing it in the first place.

I really don’t think he’ll be allowed to make sweeping changes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was an amicable transition. He was probably lined up. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was pre-agreed that after building Celine up he leaves, as weird as that sounds.
Weren't people saying Hedi's last men's show looked like Ralph Lauren? And his last women's show like Chanel...? One to welcome his successor, and one to foreshadow his new job?

That would be a very Hedi thing to do.

The WWD or Bof article mentioned that they (Hedi and Arnault) couldn't figure how to solve the contract which leads to Hedi's departure,so not sure how amicable it was in the end.
They could have been in agreement that they had reached one of the end conditions for their partnership, but still had loose ends to work out. Like how to compensate Hedi for all the work he's done over things that haven't even started to bring in money.

They had me fooled with the timing, but the more I think about it, the more amicable, collegial even, it really does seem. I'm leaning toward believing that it was explicitly part of Hedi's job to give Celine a future after him. He aligned his last videos with the fashion week schedule, so it won't look so much like Rider undoing Hedi's eccentricities when he does runway shows during fashion week. Hedi's last menswear show may have already started the transition. Rider can start working in his Riderisms (whatever they are) immediately from there without it coming off as a total non-sequitur.

Heck, they can even follow up the Haute Perfumery (🙄) line with a second parallel perfume line. A different bottle and a different photographer on the campaign will draw a clear distinction without immediately cheapening the excruciating Hedi-ness of Hedi's line.

I suspect the door is open to Hedi working for LVMH in some capacity in the future. And somehow that makes me more curious about where Celine is going in the near future.

This is what I mean by amicable. The brief after all was to build Celine up there as a big brand, and I’m sure they know about his antics and stuff. I really wouldn’t be surprised if they all expected it to end once a certain threshold had been reached. Of course there would be disputes here and there with royalties, etc. but I’m sure LVMH was smart enough, especially after the Saint Laurent lawsuit debacle.

His contract apparently ended earlier this year, but he stayed until last month. That should mean something.

SLP was an accidental bastard child. Hedi's Celine had a trust fund from day one and has just come of age.

I love it. And that explains the complicated exit negotiations. Celine's campaigns and social media have seemed a bit rushed in recent months. I wonder where the delay was in this chain of musical chairs.

He's adorable to me (though I haven't watched that discussion / haven't seen his debut Celine yet so my opinion might change lol); I have a soft spot for gay geeks.
they told me he is a super nice and kind hearted person to work with , i don't think the issue will be his persona or attitude.

i think it will come down to his ability to make something out of Celine that is excellent not just ok!! given his years of experience, his Polo i can say is not the best.

time will tell but i fear for a weak outcome, nobody hired after Hedi had a strong point of view so far.

I don’t know if his work for Ralph Lauren is supposed to have people scared of what he can achieve at Celine but clearly, his contribution to Celine under Phoebe didn’t scared the people at Polo to hire him.

I will let the man work. He has a difficult task because in essence, what Hedi did makes difficult for him to fully experiment or be creative.

I expect his Celine to be similar to the early days of Phoebe, precisely the precollections. That’s the best compromise.

Maybe he can be a new AM? always at the studio and now that he can shine he bring all his universe? we shouldn't look at that Polo Collection as reference....it's another market and type of brand....but something the execs saw on hum convinced them....let's wait and see.

When your hired from a star brand like Celine at the time or Prada even, its easy to get jobs at another company's with less prestige in design but paying well, because of the buzz around the brand you came from gives you status during the interviewing process, of course you do a project to show how you can translate the brand that is interviewing you so they know there is design language you both speak and can contribute to.

Honestly it does not say much of one's personal style or talent for world building , you seen all the hires lately with good resumes people are individual in the end, their true talent or lack of vision or strong vision will become clear.

Phoebe was already showing her personality while assisting Stella she dressed certain way and much of stella early days is influenced by Phoebe raw talent and taste , as she was known to be that cool girl with Stella already back then.

AM lived already like he did he was already a collector of many antique objects and furniture /art etc he mentioned to even be online shopping auctions while being bored or waiting to be fired during Frida departure.

You can see a lot from looking at a creative director life what their style is by their environment and choices in details, what drives them what they are into and obsessed with.

cant wait to see the choices hope its strong that all
