Michael Rider - Designer, Creative Director of Celine

Rider’s Challenge won’t be to necessarily sell clothes but to have Celine less dependent on the Triomphe logo and CELINE on merch.
Because ultimately, what was the success of Saint Laurent by Slimane wasn’t the success of Celine by Slimane.
Rider will have to bring a fashion proposition to it to move stuff.

So yeah celine is toast.

they are just gonna be glad to not have to close a bunch of stores. There’s no way they built out this insane distribution network for Polo Ralph Lauren…

This guy will be sunsetted like that lady who preceded Phoebe - that we don’t even remember.

Celine was just about to find its footing as a super brand. Now Hedi sent them back to the queue.

Back in the Superfuture days when Dior Homme was still showing on the runway, looking like Polo Ralph Lauren was an insult. That whole vibe was the opposite of what we admired. Ironically, those same guys are now the Celine customer. They've always had that exact point of view. They couldn't have chosen a worse follow up to Hedi.

I only buy Polo Ralph Lauren for children, like when I wore it as a little boy because my mom dressed me in it.

Sailing CELINE? They’re really hell bent on making it French RL which is not bad. I rather like though where Hedi was taking it with the last two collections. I’m not sure if I’ll like it if Rider makes it more casual.

Part of the allure was how serious they were for such simple merchandise.

..... that's what give it some high fashion credibility rigorous Hedi edit and orchestration for simple merch.

make it more easy and loose you will get Kenzo level brand

good luck to them lol

I had no hopes
Nah, they are fine as long as Rider releases new versions of the Triomphe bag and CELINE logo stuff...
I don't think Hedi stans contributed to sales greater than 10% of total...it's gonna underperform but nothing terrible.

It’s probably safe to say that key markets in the Far East who largely contributed to the sales of Celine’s more fashion-forward products will NOT respond to what Mr. Rider is cooking up.

You don’t need to be a hardcore, day-one Slimane follower to realize it’s had a particular niche on the market that is now vacant.

I’m not going to discuss the Celine Men because I don’t want to ruffle any feathers, but Celine Woman was just a brilliant exercise in styling. And I’m not a trend setter or anything, but I was caught off guard when Slimane showed the “new look” of Chanel-esque jacket and denim. I have been wearing the same look for years (with my mom’s Chanel jacket) and sometimes even with shorts. Admittedly I was lazy and the jacket somehow pulls the whole outfit together. But somehow Slimane now made that whole look “cool.”
