Michael Rider - Designer, Creative Director of Celine

Is there no Celine show this menswear fashion week? Bizarre, if that is the case...

I believe those were done by the studio. Rider's collection is still slated for the July 6th Debut.

These Filler collections are indeed torture to look at. Even the Hedi-esque photoshoots are painful to see...

What I find hilarious is that some Hedi fans are so appalled by what the design studio is doing as if it’s that far from what Hedi was doing in the first place.
I don’t see any difference at all!

I don’t see that much difference either and I actually ordered the beige loafers asap; they are damn cute !!!

I love Hedi but if anything what’s lost is the sheen and precision in communications. Nothing changed on the shop floor. It’s not as if they sell those key CELINE HOMME pieces. It’s been merch galore sans the suiting and jackets.

The fans do see the difference and this we also have to be honest about same as any studio led design collection post exit of any Creative Director : Gucci´s easy example that comes to mind we got to see post AM post Ancora same for Chanel another one easy to see post Virgine.

If we praise those done by studio for being as we are able to see improvements post CD exit, we should give Hedi fans a brake also for saying that it's not an honorable continuation or improvement post Hedi.

As you mentioned and many as well hedi is in the details and when the details are a blunt end of a pencil instead of a sharp pencil your notice :-)

Proximity does not equal authenticy.

Yes but they act like the change has been so dramatic. I think in stores, you can still find Hedi pieces.
I think that Céline managed more than the other brands the in-between era. They have maintained a similar kind of visual with Karim Sadli, so no drop in terms of quality of visuals.
So far, except for 2/3 leaks we haven’t seen a full look book so they let the product do the talking. And I would be very surprised if the whole offering at Celine has changed since Hedi left. His last collections will be out of stores in maybe 1 month and the permanent collection is still there.

And I wish that if the difference was that huge, it would have been appreciated in more than things like tshirts and sweatshirts. Maybe tailoring, something very specific to Hedi…

just went to see the IG I would be pissed 2 if i was a die hard hedi Celine lover lol its bad guys models styling cut of clothes styling all of it. (womens look more convincing hedi)

shooting crap in same environment does not constitute crap to be a solid bar of gold
we don't talk about for cut and aura of other designers and then say because its hedi these elements don't exist anymore no manner of at first glans the seem similar.

its like telling a hermes lover and owner that a birkin is the same as a the row margaux and to get over it lol because it's both a bag and expensive and under the quite luxury starter kit .

As somebody who knows and cares about the tiniest parameters that differentiate 'real' Helmut, Jil and Hedi, I can tell you that Dior Homme, Saint Laurent, Helmut and Jil immdiately fell off my interest the moment either one these designers left.

This in-between collection comprises either way of casual garments I would never buy from a designer, I only ever go for outerwear/tailoring/boots.

Maybe women don‘t fuss as much about the tiny differences of a lapel shape, width of a pinstriped wool, toe box or heel shape of a boot - But when clothes are more on the minimal side, the devil is in those details and not so much the bigger picture.

there is a new Celine ad running in Paris streets it seem it's Michael rider pre show teaser a cream scarf over a box with knot and celine on the edge of scarf printed looks like a bento box wrapped in a scarf basicly in the same with celine frame we know from Hedi

That peacoat is cute too...
But seeing Dior and Celine IGs side by side today, I would say there is a risk of confusion between the two brands for the less attentive viewers/customers.

The thing is that, with Hedi leaving, things are inevitable going to change. So for that, a Hedi fan can be mad but it’s inevitable. Even if the current direction aligns with Hedi’s principles, it was going to change anyway.

The collection is not designed by him so I’m puzzled by the criticism because it’s not possible to apply his standards while he is absent.

But the comparison between The Row and Hermes doesn’t work for me because we are comparing two brands that are fairly different. And I think the branding factor matter the most.

I just think that if we exclude the Hedi fans, a regular customer at Celine couldn’t be shocked by this transition period.

It’s the same at Tom Ford. Thins changed drastically when Peter Hawkings and when the studio took over. I can recognize that because I followed Tom’s work. The cut on the jackets is different even though they have maintained the large lapels. Even the design of the heels is different.

But for the average Tom Ford customer, there are still suits, glamour sunglasses and column dresses in stores. So the customer of the brand is not shocked.

That was my point.

I don’t get the argument from his fans because, he left!
It happened during the Dior Homme or Saint Laurent days. I think for example a fan would rather look at what from Hedi’s time will be maintained at Celine. At Saint Laurent they kept the permanent collection for a long time. The same at Dior.
