I think Michelle looked absolutely radiant at the Democratic National Convention. The Tracy Reese dress is really lovely and was the perfect thing for the occasion. And how great was her speech? It actually brought tears to my eye's several times. She gave such a heartfelt speech (which she apparently wrote herself), it was amazing to watch.

The Tracy Reese dress she wore was just gorgeous. It really complimented her skin tone perfectly.

Mrs. Obama is simply radiant in her Tracy Reese dress. Perfect colors, perfect shape, perfect fit. Everything.

I don't find her style anything special....
She always wears the same type of dresses, shoes, necklaces...quite boring actually!

^ Yes, but this is America. If she wears anything slightly out of the box Fox News will be all over her. I remember when she wore that McQueen gown to some state dinner and the media pounced on her for not wearing an American designer. She plays it safe because she doesn't want any unnecessary attention.

For DC, she takes a boatload of risks.

^^ I think what's being called boring, I would call personal style.

The shape of the dress is perfect for her ... what a great opportunity for Tracy Reese  Close to patriotic colors, without looking anything like a flag.

Her DNC speech dress actually reminds me of the types of day dresses Anna Wintour wears.

I read this interesting article about the outfit Michelle wore last night to the DNC and I thought I'd share it with everyone. I also, think that by wearing a multicolored dress (especially one which wasn't in the typical colors of red, white, or blue that all first ladies seem to wear), she sent the message that it was more then about politics or "choosing sides." I'm sure Michelle and her team spent a bit of time choosing the right look for the convention, and I'd say they choose a successful one!

The Dress Michelle Obama Wasn't Just Pretty It Sent A Message
Last night, Michelle Obama gave what's been called a "history-changing" speech. People didn't just notice her eloquence; they noticed her nails, her hair, and that gorgeous dress. A dress that's not just a dress.

The garment in question was made by Tracy Reese, a Detroit-born, New York-based designer. She is one of the few black designers to show consistently at New York Fashion Week; some seasons, she's the only black designer presenting a collection under the tents. Mrs. Obama's support obviously boosts Reese's visibility. But in addition, the Democratic party has been positioning itself as the younger, more ethnically diverse party, and Reese, as a 48-year-old black woman, fits right in. Plus, Reese's dresses retail around $350. When you consider the fact that Ann Romney wore a silk gown in "Nancy Reagan red" by 80-year-old Oscar de la Renta — with a price tag of $1,990 — it's clear that each party's message has seeped into — and is telegraphed by — the fashion choices. The Democrats have been talking about the American Dream — working hard without being an heir, achieving greatness and helping others — and Reese, who is often involved with charities like Fashion Fights Cancer and The America Legacy Foundation, personifies that dream.

When President Obama was inaugurated, some black designers were disappointed that the First Lady didn't wear an ensemble by an African-American on that big night. But since then, Mrs. Obama has worn a bunch of Tracy Reese dresses, as well as other black designers, like Stephen Burrows, Rachel Roy, and Duru Olowu. And she continues to support other designers who are ethnic minorities, like Jason Wu and Prabal Gurung.

But beyond racial diversity, there's the actual hue. As Katherine Boyle writes for the Washington Post, instead picking a politically charged color like blue or red, Mrs. Obama opted for pink, "a politically neutral, feminine shade."

Plus:

Additionally, her convention attire avoided any controversy concerning the high price of fashion. Ann Romney and Michelle Obama have both been criticized for wearing pricey designer clothes that retail in the thousands. Reese's off-the-rack dresses typically start at about $350; by buying a custom-made dress, Obama ensures that only confidants know the price.

^ Hmm ... Rachel Roy is black?! Not according to Wikipedia ...

She is of mixed racial ancestry, her mother is Dutch and her father is Indian.

I read the dress as off-red (the shoe color is Rhubarb), blue, and golden ivory.

^Yeah, that was the one thing I was confused about in the article. I think that a lot of people assume that Rachel Roy's a black designer though (which is obviously incorrect).

Beautiful dress, the colors and material are very Indian like.
