Mineral Makeup

I got my EM samples, though I've only just dabbled in it. The most bizarre thing is what happened with my blush. I ordered siesta, which appears to be a kind of orangey-ruddy looking version of what you might call rose. But when I rubbed it on my skin, it turned and incredible hot pink. haha After toning it down a little, it looked more normal, but it's still not a good color on me.

Other than that I'm not sure if I like it. I patted on three layers of various powders over a scar, and it didn't cover it up really. Plus none of the colors really suit me. And instead of being clogged with dirt, my nose looks clogged with a white powder.

Maybe someday when I have nothing to hide I'll love it. My problem-free nose area actually looks quite good. I'm just not so used to powder..it just sticks to my cheek fuzz so much and makes me look all powdery... Maybe I just shouldn't stare so up-close.

I'm thinking of getting it. Would it be better to get a slightly darker or lighter?

i just received my Buff'd Cosmetics
so far, i have tried EM and MAD cosmetics.

Buff'd falls somewhere in between. its matte enough to control my oily t-zone. and yet it doesnt enlarge my pores.. MAD totally enlarges my pores!!

i would consider getting more Buff'd regular-sized items.. however,
MAD's silk veil is really the best finishing powder i';ve come across..i'm not sure if Buff'd carries something similar..

hii. i wanted to recommend philosophy's airbrush foundation. its very similar to bare minerals - mineral powder, same type of application, etc. however, i think its much better. it really does make my skin look FLAWLESS.. and it seems as though my skin actually got better once i started using it.. my skin was never bad but the skintone was a lil uneven and now when i don't use it (i never used to use foundation before) my skin seems better. also, it feels very weightless, never itchy, never broke me out. if u want, check out reviews on makeupalley.com cause it actually got better reviews (thas how i decided on this over the bare minerals). just check it out, i'm sure both products are great but i think this one is prolly better.

I've been looking at that product for awhile. I love Bare Minerals though, but am willing to try something new + I love Philosophy. How exactly do you use it though? I guess I'm just confused as to why theres a sponge if it's mineral powder foundation & it doesn't come with a buffing brush instead.

Hmmm....I'm intrigued. I think I may just have to give this a try. Thanks for the recommendation

I like philosophy airbrushed "The Supernatural" too. You can buff it on with the sponge applicator--and they sell extra sponges which is nice. It is so easy. You can also apply it with a brush if you prefer.

I use BE Multi-Tasking Minerals as well as the Gossamer but I have trouble with the foundation--it doesn't look that great. What is too much and what is too little? I get a better effect with philosophy.

I was experimenting and bought a starter kit of Amazing Cosmetics mineral makeup. What a waste. It does nothing and looks like a cheap foundation. Not to mention the concealer contains alot of awful ingredients. This was a mistake. They even had an instructional DVD that was really not much to watch. They have some Hollywood makeup artist as a spokesperson and I did not think she was particularly talented.

I just bought some mineral makeup from someone who makes their own line. It's supposed to be superior to BE and mass manufactured makeup because its 100% natural crushed minerals with no fillers and bismuth oxychloride (which makes it itchy). I'll update on the results, should get it soon enough.

i've tried edm, MAD minerals, buff'd cosmetics, blissbeauty cosmetics, meow cosmetics and lately, southern magnolia cosmetics and pure lux.
on its way to me are: lumiere, www.fyrinnae.com, and a couple of others i can't remember too..
yeah, i've been on a sample rampage! the best staying power with the most flawless finish has to be (ranked:(
1. southern magnolia cosmetics- goes on v smoothly.. doesnt feel heavy on skin, has gd coverage, colors match me perfectly. the finishing powder has jus the right amount of glitter to look naturally "shiny". however samples are v v v tiny..wish they could be a little more generous to win my complete and utter loyalty!
2. buff'd & meow- superb coverage.their foundations can double as concealor- will re-order. however not v excited by their range of e/s colors. buff'd has v generous samples and excellent customer service
3. mad minerals- superb colors for e/s. v pigmented -will re-order, especially tropicana- fantastic pink blush.
4. edm- v chalkyfinish
5.beauty bliss- chalky finish-will not re-order
6 pure lux- known for its wet mineral foundation.. it felt gd but the color was v off, and it left my skin v dry-reordered a diff shade

Thank you so much for the reviews voodoo_mary, now I'v finally made up
my mind on what to order :flower:

Just got the minerals today and after testing it, I'm not impressed. First off, it was a shade off, very cakey and it didn't cover as much as mask my face. I've tried three different brands of mineral makeup and I don't think its something spectacular. I'm going to either throw it away or mix it with lotion and use that in the summer. I'll be sticking to liquid foundation for flawless coverage.

update on pure luxe:
i just received my sample of the warm honey beige wet mineral foundation. it is *still* not my correct shade :( its too yellow for my skin. so i need to mix it with something in a tan shade- after doing that- the color suits me fine. but alot of blending work is needed to make the liquid look seamless.

hi kateelle! if you haven'tgot the right shade, maybe you could try mixing two shades - but they have to be of the same family. i always need to do that to get my correct shade

voodoo mary- I don't want to have to buy more mineral makeup  , but I found mixing it with lotion actually works for now. I hate the matte look so the mixture is more like sheer foundation. The only thing I like about this is that I can hardly feel it on my face which is fantastic. :D

Oops! I didn't see this thread and posted about mineral makeup in the Organic/Vegan Cosmetics and The Safety of Beauty Brands thread. Sorry!

Anyhow, I agree with post #69 - Southern Magnolia is great! Although I've noticed that the makeup lasts longer when applied wet vs. dry.

Here's another mineral makeup that works well: http://stores.ebay.com/Sheer-Miracle

However, the shades are a bit too yellow for me. It does provide more coverage as well but I prefer the lighter coverage of Southern Magnolia Minerals. :flower:

i've just received my TaylorMade mineral makeup samples!
I got Bianca and Juliet foundation samples... they are a perfect match for me... its strange, but my skin tone can handle yellow or neutral foundation colors... anyway, the foundation powder sits v well on my face..and most importantly, no visibly enlarged pores!
I also got TM eyeshadow samples. "Mission" is really nice when applied wet..

Paperdoll- have u tried applying southern magnolia mineral foundation WET? can that be done?

I know, it sounds odd... but try it! I had purchased their cosmetics about five times before I finally wetted my finger and mixed some foundation with the water (maybe even try some moisturizer). It works! I have small pores though and somewhat dry skin so it doesn't enlarge my pores. So I can't speak for everyone but I'd just recommend trying it to see if it works for you. Plus, the samples are so inexpensive! Buy them directly from their site for $3.95 each.^_^

thanks paperdoll- but i can't do the wet foundation look, my skin is very oily and also v dry. i may try it as a concealor tho!

i love southern magnolia too!
here it is
smagnolia.jpg

i'm wearing medium beige and light tan (sorry if the name sounds wrong- i've got too many samples and i can't keep track of their names! but this is from southern magnolia)

and today,
same for face, but for eyes, i'm using a mixture of taylor made cosmetics e/s and fryinnae e/s with southern magnolia finishing powder (glove)

the eyes- i messed up a little .. but this is what it looks like. i used purples and reds.

Your skin looks so lovely! It's very luminescent. :flower: Did you use champagne kiss bronzer? I  that!

Have you tried Southern Magnolia eyeshadow? I haven't yet... but those plum shades look nice!

thanks paperdoll!
again, i must apologize for being so bad with mineral makeup names!!
all i remember now, (my makeup is all at home, and i'm in the office now) is that i used mineral foundation from southern magnolia. AND i topped it off with a light dusting of the white-ish luminous-looking finishing dust (also southern magnolia or SM. it is v v fine.. and when applied looks very pretty. i guess the mineral is v fine? i hate finishing powder that is “flaky” has large bits of glitter... it makes me look like halloween gone wrong. This SM finishing powder is just amazing.. I also have angel from SM, which I use as a highlighter (brow bone, forehead, cheeks, chin and nose bridge). I have combination skin, so I heart SM foundation for its oily-control.

also, with other mineral foundation (MAD, Buff’d, taylormade, fryinnae) although the color match is v gd, and the application is smooth, finishing looks great, they tend to rub off v easily. Not with SM!

i ordered some e/s from SM too. but they come in 1/8 teaspoon which is too little, really! I got some purple and pink shades- not too crazy about the color. The quality is what u would expect from SM- pretty darn gd! Just wish they had more happening colors. Y’know? I USE THE E/S for lip color instead.. they look v pretty as lip color (oh I bought the SM clear lip gel, which I mix with the e/s to create my lip color)
