OK, I need to know what would be a good number of outfits to aim for for someone who works in an office. Note that I didn't say pieces, I'm thinking more along the lines of outfits...

I currently have way more clothes than I will ever ever need - and the majority of it acquired in the last 2 years too. I want to cut back to the essentials, but I'm having a very hard time working out what the essentials are. At the moment I have drawers and baskets and wardrobes full and half my clothes I don't know about or when I find them they're creased hideously.

Should a girl have a suit for every day of the week or the month? How frequently can you rotate without people saying "oh it must be Tuesday, you're wearing the blue top"

Well, Im not really sure if this relates to what you're saying but when I was in cosmetology school, we had a guest speaker, who was a male hair-stylist, and he was explaining to us how he has 5 outfits always picked out for every day he works, that way when his clients come in, he always looks professional and great, and they never notice.

No, i'm sure that had nothing to do with this topic. haha what?

I think the key if you want to have a flexible wardrobe is to buy separates and then mix them up. Repeating head-to-toe outfits is the way to get people to notice you have a "Wednesday" and a "Thursday" :p I knew someone who did this, btw--she actually threw off one of the guys at the office by wearing an outfit on the 'wrong' day :innocent:
