Morgane Dubled in a light-up dress by Hussein Chalayan, Fall 2007
“How can I forget that moment, honestly? [Wearing this dress is] one of my best memories as a model! I met Hussein Chalayan when I was still very new in that industry. I was so charmed by his kindness, and near timidity. He always made me feel special, like I was not only a model who was doing her job, but someone he could trust enough to embody his magical design.
“It was the first time in my career that the fitting became so technical—where to hide the batteries, how to move in that dress, will it work? And, to add a bit more pressure, adrenaline, and excitement to everything, I wore two complicated technical dresses during that show. Even though it might look impossible to change dresses in such small laps of time, the help of five different people made the magic happen. When this dress glowed in the dark, [I got] goose bumps: I knew that moment was special for me, but also for fashion and art history. I have a master’s degree in art history from La Sorbonne, and I wrote a thesis about the place of the défilé in contemporary art, which of course included this moment.”
