Bienvenido a Miami: Styles from the VMAs red carpet
Monday, August 30, 2004
Last evening’s much-anticipated VMAs brought out Hollywood’s hottest starlets, who uncharacteristically, were a kinder, gentler audience than in years past. Taking place in Miami for the first time in the show’s 21-year history, stars arrived via yacht instead of the traditional limo gridlock that is usually seen in NY and LA. Despite Miami’s heat (no, not the sport’s team) the packed house managed to pull out all the stops, looking Miami magnífico!
With much of the evening centered on voting, Gwen Stefani fit right in, dazzling in a red, white, and blue Louis Vuitton skirt and bustier. Keeping with the theme, P.Diddy, mohawk and all, distributed his "Vote or Die!" shirts, and celeb upon celeb pleaded with the youth of America to vote.
Breaking from her grungy roots, and dressing more like sister Jessica, Ashlee Simpson wore a lace Jennifer Nicholson number. Also looking extremely glam was singer Alicia Keyes, who showed herself to be the true diva she is in a Dolce & Gabbana fall/winter 04 runway gown and gold stilettos. Carmen Electra wowed in a white Loris Azzaro dress. Cavalli was a big scene stealer as well appearing on Christina Aguilera, Paris Hilton, and Eva Mendez.
For the men, the look of the night was all white, appearing on Jay-Z, P. Diddy, Bruce Willis, and the always impeccable Usher. But the true belle of the ball, who presented with a not quite as glamorous Marilyn Manson, was Mandy Moore, dressed in a stunning champagne Calvin Klein halter dress.
Close but no cigar: Beyoncé appeared in a plunging gold suit jacket paired with what can only be described as designer daisy dukes. And while we loved J.Lo's dress and went gaga over her Fendi bag, we're over the whole big hat look.
