MU•BI [mōō'bē] - adjective, verb, noun.

  • an online movie theater where
    you watch, discover, and discuss
    auteur cinema.
  • A city in Nigeria.

MUBI is not just about discovering wonderful new cinema or classic masterpieces. It’s also about discussing and sharing these discoveries, which makes us like a small coffee shop—a place where you can gather and talk about alternative endings, directors’ cuts, and whatever those frogs in Magnolia meant. Heated debates and passionate arguments are welcome.

I was introduced to MUBI (formerly, The Auteurs) yesterday, it's essentially the film equivalent of what Last.fm is for music or Goodreads is for books.

It's quite nice for keeping straight of what you've seen and what you liked and what you never ever want to see again, making lists, seeing your friends' or other film connoisseurs collections of favorites or ratings in a feed, forums for discussions, a section for festivals, and much, much more...

Anyone already familiar with Mubi? I'm surprised I'd never heard of it until fateful yesterday.

Here's my profile. If you like, post yours if you sign up or are already a member. :flower:

Great website! It's a great way of tracking what movies I want to watch instead of losing the scraps of paper that I usually write them on.

Yes! No more unremembered, misplaced scraps of papers or computer files of forgotten titles ... I have tried a number of times to keep a list of films to see, and lost it again and again. This essentially solves my problem. ^_^

What bothers me that there's a lot of movies I love but they don't have it on the site. :( and I have no idea how to request movies.

You can go here for submission info, and use this forum when you're ready. :flower:

There's only a few films missing from the database that I'd like to see added, one of which I requested the night before. Unfortunately, it's a little bit time consuming to submit (maybe 15-20 minutes or so?), however, you can use each film's IMDb page to collect most the info required.

They add movies. Some of my favorites weren't on the site when I first looked them up.

Did you submit them or did they happen to add them anyway? I've submitted a couple in this week and am wondering roughly how long it may take for them to be added ... a few weeks maybe?

I've submitted 2 films, and yeah, it took a couple of weeks from memory.

Always search a cast member or director too, because sometimes the film won't show up with a normal search, but is on mubi.

Oh, thank you! Yes, I had read this, as well, and searched for the directors and a cast member each, and nothing. They're both documentaries, so, perhaps not popular enough to have been added yet.

If anyone else was wondering the wait time for submitted films, it took them less than a week to add the second film I submitted, and there's a coming soon sort of page for the first I submitted (interesting, I guess they don't go in the order of requests made?).

That's weird, I submitted two movies 2 weeks ago, and still nothing.

They say they give priority to submissions which follow the rules and guidelines precisely ... maybe you accidently made a mistake in your submissions? I'm sure you meant to send it correctly, perhaps, something went wrong though or they didn't receive them. :(

I was actually wondering though, if they eventually add everything or whether they ever reject any of the submissions?

Hmm maybe.. I'm gonna try submitting again then :) and let's see what happens.
