Narciso Rodriguez S/S 06 New York

I agree. the length of the dress turns me off. I always find him boring.....
but a nice Men's collection!

This collection is above average, but not amazing.. the suit jackets are really nice though.

The style.com review really tore this collection apart. Which I found totally weird considering they hardly ever post negative reviews and surely not about their precious child Narciso.

NEW YORK, September 13, 2005 – Narciso Rodriguez shook things up when he moved from his longtime location at the Bryant Park tents to the Exit Art gallery on Tenth Avenue. His collection might have benefited from some subtle reworking, as well. If it isn't broken, it shouldn't be fixed. But the sight of Claire Danes in the front row wearing a lavender tank dress from his resort collection that was terribly similar to several he sent out for spring was not a great omen.

There were fresh faces in the audience, thanks to the simultaneous launch of his menswear line, and an accompanying sense of anticipation. He delivered on that promise in his women's collection by dropping his skirt lengths a few inches below the knee and outfitting his models with a low wedge sandal. He's turned the page on strictly monochrome dresses, and he played with piecing shades together, like silver, violet, and brown linen stitched into one dress. Other harness-back coats and dresses looked familiar, as did strictly seamed suits, and all lacked the sex appeal that made loyal clients of Danes and Rachel Weisz in the first place.

What did look fresh were his crystal-encrusted bodices and waistbands, and a pearl-covered net shell worn with a full voile skirt. In a season that's shaping up to be about rich, hand-worked details, these pieces made one long for more, in the form of some full-length gowns equally embellished and luxe.

I'm not inspired and the dress lengths are annoying me too.

but it's certainly not bad, it's very fresh and light..well kind of light

I thought that was pretty strange too - and stranger still, was why they bashed it: "In a season that's shaping up to be about rich, hand-worked details, these pieces made one long for more, in the form of some full-length gowns equally embellished and luxe." Huh? Haven't "rich, hand-worked details" been the In thing for like the past three seasons already? Why bother to complain now?

Anyway, I just took a look at the entire collection on style.com and I have to say that taken on the whole, it is pretty repetitious, and a tad dull. But I still find its simplicity refreshing - sometimes you needing a break from all those "rich, hand-worked details."

I think his S/S 2005 collection was a lot better than this, it was much lighter, still structured but wih an ease... remember that floating Empire-line gown on Natasha Poly? That´s really magic in my eyes... elegant, but still very comfortable and easy... It might be in the mood of the season, but I found the majority of collections too built, I miss a sense of lightness in those clothes... On the contrary, I´m very happy about the fact that I have found the perfect shoes for the next season... Narciso´s are so good in my eyes!

i totally agree...i was really surprised to read the style.com review, but then again, they've praised IoC in the past...:innocent:

i love the striped down simplicity of this collection...just as i did with marc...in a way, to me, that's what spring is all about, a sort of refinement, loosening of layers and embellishment...

one of my faves from new york...

It's nice, but it just looks more or less like his SS05 collection. I think the FW05 was his most outstanding, absolutely adore the black dress Gemma closed the show in :D

Well, the length of the last not-long dress (with the cutout) looks perfect to me ... the others do seem to be hitting the models in the wrong place--could the length maybe be more for real women?

I do like this--breezy, effortless, sexy in the right way ...

maybe..he had no time to create something better in men's line

:D right on, i dont like the menswear but the womenswear is ace ;)

This SS06 collection is vintage Narciso without the sequins. I am sure it will look a lot more desireable in person than on the runway, but so far I feel it's too pared down and dull.. The best look is the one that Narciso is sporting himself--crisp white shirts with tailored black pants.

However, the right woman will enliven the dresses. Rachel Weisz, Bridget Moyahan [sp], and Renee Russo will look fab in them. Sarah Jessica Parker and Claire Danes, not at all.
