Net-A-Porter

I know, i'm on the notified by email-list for several brands and items and i NEVER hear anything. My nightmare is that they will get some limited edition Viv Westwood-tee's and they're sold out before i get my hold on one cause they forgot to notify me.

...or there's the fear that it will go straight to the junk box and you'll miss it!

Incredible! I think I received the email not 12 hours before they had all gone. Damn the time difference!
Do you know if you can pre-order items from NAP?

^ If you email customer care for the item you want they can put you on a waitlist. I believe you have to give them your credit card info upfront so they can charge you as soon as the item comes in. :flower:

everyone check out DAVID SZETO and buy it while it lasts.... remember i told you

 :woot:

^ it's been working for me. I'd just try again every once in a while, I think they get so much traffic on wendesdays sometimes the servers cant handle it. I notice they're usually much slower then too.

the net-a-porter site hasnt been working for me today, anyone else?

I also have had trouble with it all day - finally got it working, placed a bunch of stuff in my shopping chart but then it won't let me sign in or "proceed to purchase". The error message that comes up from internet explorer is that there is a problem with the server  I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow and try again.

I have had good luck in pre-ordering items from NAP. I recently became a EIP (same as a VIP) I think because I spent so much money on the site last year.
As a result, I have a contact person in customer care who I can email with my request. I would imagine sending an email to customer care and asking how best to handle your request might set the stage for you to establish a relationship with someone who you can then contact directly on an ongoing bases. Just a thought! Good Luck!

How much money do you have to spend (approx) to become an EIP? Maybe it can be something I can aim for :p

I was just wondering if anyone has ever shopped at the Net-a-Porter website?

I know their shipping costs are probably high to ship to the US compared to if you ordered something from the actual boutique in the US & paid their shipping costs but what Im wondering is if their costs of the items are higher, lower or the same as they would be in the boutiques?

Thanks for your help. :flower:

When I was living overseas I tried shopping from Net-A-Porter and I found the prices to generally be a lot higher than if I purchased it in the US. This is the case with most luxury items...including cosmetics.

I believe Net-A-Porter now has a service center in the US, although, I don't know if this makes a difference pricewise.

The tariffs are what make the prices so astronimical for purchasing designs from overseas vendors...also the availability. A lot more products tends to be shipped to the US, as there's a lot more money to be spent here.

I used to order my items in the US and simply have them sent to me in Europe. I paid a lot less that way. Also, Net-a-Porter is a british company and I find with the pound, the costs tend to be higher as well...it's not even so much about the exchange rate, as it is about "cost perception". It's a difficult concept to get into here, though...

Good luck with your purchase...

I use to do that too, danslair, but now i doesn't work anymore. I have to pay alot more in tax. Unfortunately.. I'm still "hating" (not really hating, but really irritated) myself for not getting the perfect Kenneth Jay Lane-necklace on sale for 20$, marked down from 75$..

I emailed them once asking about the price discrepancy. I ordered a dress from the International NAP (a Phillip Lim dress) and there was about a aud$150 (approx usd$120, 60 pound) difference between the International NAP and US NAP price. I emailed the Intl NAP to ask about it and this is what I got as a reply:
Thank you for contacting us.

The prices listed on the website in US Dollars
include the European V.A.T. tax which is 17.5%.
When a customer registers and identifies their
shipping address in the U.S. the VAT tax is dropped
from the price and the accurate duties and taxes
for import into the US are added.

In some cases our prices are higher than the prices
in the stores and in some cases we are less expensive.
A fashion label that originates in the US will inevitably
be more expensive on our site than in a US local shop.
However, you will find that brands from outside the US
are competitively priced.

Whilst NET-A-PORTER aims where possible to remain
competitive with other retailers, it is inevitable that at times a
situation will occur where we will sell some items
at a higher price point, and others at a lower one.

However, we try our best to offer a fair international price.

As we are sure you can appreciate, as our
company operates on an international scale
it is extremely difficult to maintain a consistent
level of competitiveness with all markets at all
times. Furthermore, please be advised that the
import taxes levied on American designer products
for sale in the UK are also a contributing factor
to higher prices.

We hope this is of assistance to you.

Kind Regards

Customer Care

I'm probably stating the obvious  but on the whole US designers like MJ, PL, Alexander Wang, etc less pricey on the US site, whereas on the International site European designers are priced lower on the US site. Also I've found that the US site do charge anything from 5-50usd more for items especially with PL et al. Another annoying thing is that their sales start at different times. Anyway, I'll stop my rant now, I think I've rambled for far too long.

But don't you have to pay the difference in tax?

How much tax would you have to pay on a $510 item? Anyone know?

Bought this Missoni a few weeks ago (had I known thus waited for the 3/14-3/28 ship code  ):

I've been in a summery mood since February....can't wait to wear it to the beach!

Is any one here raiding their Philip Lim collection? I'm really beginning to appreciate his clothes, because they are both work-friendly and beautiful enough for various types of evening outtings. It's a style that's more NY than LA since it's quite urban sophisticate.....and also what I've grown to love.

Pucci_mama, when i tried ordering something for a totale value of 200 $, they called and said it would be another 100$ in tax, so i assume it's the same all nations not located in the US.

these are on the way to me:woot:
