Well, while I agree that his work prior to Rochas was more gothic, subversive and raw, it certainly wouldn't call it garish. Which is what this collection is, in my opinion. So in that respect, I would not consider this collection on par with any of his pre-Rochas collections. And I must mention, the VERY first thing that came to my mind was, "Theysekens is going back to his roots..." Theyskens "before" wasn't Rochas, his very first collections were very gothic and very subverted. Latex bodysuits..the whole shabang.
I'm not going to claim to have the best memory of his early work before he went to Rochas, but from what I do remember, this really bears no resemblance to it. I mean, I don't remember his namesake collections looking this over the top and, I hate to use the word since it's not the best way of describing it, kitschy. A lot of this stuff looks more along the lines of what someone like Gaultier or Galliano might do when they're in couture mode.Paris is officially on fire. The devils of imagination have been set loose.
I think this is stunning. A collection that stands for fantasy, imagination, wit..real editorial value too.
I saw someone say Dynasty with stripper shoes, there's definitely a lot of humour in it, I really really appreciate that.

P.S. I must jump on the "love those shoes" train.
I really do not see why people are complaining...I really don't. Everyone's using these incredible adjectives and concluding that they form something negative. Unsettling, earthquaking, shocking, fierce, strong, porwerful, bizarre: it's friggin fashion!! Finally
FINALLY he is moving away from the sweet, fairytale like, Autumn colored injection of romance and is producing something new, alive, exciting and discussion-worthy. I am in love with this. The Mugler references are insane...complete with Westwood inspired Naomi-fell-down-in-'em-back-in-THE-days shoes. Screw the eighties...this is three decades of fashion pumped into one show getting ready for a fourth decade. That look on Anabela is absolutely perfect...it's a vision from an era many of us long to see return (at least the atmosphere, not necessarily the same styles) and to see it happening at a Theyskens show? Wow, that was unexpected. I LOVE fashion....
