I honestly don't mind Nylon not using models on their covers. I used to buy Nylon sporadically in the early 2000s and looking through their catalog of covers in one of their old issues, actresses and musicians have clearly outnumbered models even then (and Vogue, Bazaar and everybody else were using models; I think I counted what, 5 models?). I never really associated Nylon with models but more with people who were interesting, inspiring and fresh. What made them different was that they featured fresh and bright artists that you will never find in mainstream Seventeen or Mademoiselle or Entertainment Weekly or People, who were not necessarily popular but you knew had great potential. They had this sincere, innocent, indie vibe then which has transformed lately to hipsterism.
What annoys me is that they feature these empty, shallow and overexposed celebrities who are famous for doing nothing. And they go way too hipster "too cool for anybody" sometimes. And heaven forbid that the now irrelevant Mischa Barton is on the cover next issue. Who still wants to see Mischa on a cover is beyond me.
