Celebrities shouldn't get special treatments, if they are closed then they are CLOSED. It's pointless and arragont to expect someone to open a store or anything for them because they are rich and famous. I'm sure things like this had happened many times. Just because she is Opera doesn't make it ok for them to let her do things they wouldn't normally let other people do. This shouldn't even be as big of a deal as it is :innocent:

Oprah wasn't looking for 'special treatment'. But rather the same 'treatment' that the other customers that were in the store when she arrived... received. :innocent:

Oh btw. Hermes shouldn't even apologize if what she requested was againt their store policy. If she is complaining because Hermes wounldn't let her in AFTER they had closed then it just goes to show what kind of a person she is...

Oh? From what the I understood the store was closed and the customers inside were there before the store was closed. Isn't it most store's policy to allow the people inside stay for a while and to stop people from coming in after their business hour?

If that was the case that is one thing. Yet I highly doubt that if the store was already 'closed' that Oprah & Gayle (who was with her) would try to push their way into a store knowing the stores policy. Even moreso usually when a store is closing they are trying to get the customers out of the door. Lastly the main thing is if that was the case Hermes would not have apologized for refusing Oprah to enter due to them not giving in to her wanting that oh so precious special treatment.

PARIS - Oprah Winfrey is suggesting that she was turned away from a ritzy store in Paris because she's black.

Winfrey showed up at Hermes after-hours, wanting to buy a gift. Employees refused to re-open just for her.

"Hermes regrets not having been able to welcome Madame Oprah Winfrey and the people accompanying her to give them all the attention and service that Hermes is committed to giving each of its clients in the world," the store said in a statement Tuesday.

The store added that it was closed for a public relations event and couldn't re-open, and expressed "its sincere regrets for any misunderstanding that these circumstances could have caused."

But Winfrey sees it as a racial incident. A spokeswoman is calling it a "Crash" moment.

"Crash" is a movie about racism.

The spokeswoman said Winfrey will talk about it on her talk show when it returns in the fall.

This (above) is another thing I had forgot to mention. If the store was closed for a scheduled event then why in the blue hell would customers still be in the store (as Gayle confirmed) be it looking around and or shopping?

Sounds very much like a bullsh*t excuse to me. I know Oprah doesn't like to play the race card & neither do I but something isn't adding up. Hell I can even go one step further and say that those who refused Oprah to enter the store could have just been a** clowns. Yet pertaining it to the movie crash...I don't know.

If I am wrong than I can admit that I am. But in my opinion I don't think that if this was all based on Oprah not being able to enter the store due to her trying to push her weight around, that it would have been made into such a big story to the point where Oprah's mouthpiece Gayle said that it didn't go down like so and is comparing it to her having a Crash moment. Along with it being said that she will no longer be shopping there & confirmed that she cancelled a huge order put in to the store. *shrugs*

Time shall tell though...

am glad it happened to oprah because she has the means to tell the whole world how hermes paris is a BIG segregationist b*tch. Do they know that she is the most powerful celebrity in the world? he he he!!! I can see a slump in Hermes sales thats in case they didnt call her and apologise and offer her a day shopping free of charge!

Do they know that she is the most powerful celebrity in the world?
Maybe she the most powerful celebrity in the US but do you know the US are not the whole world.

and No! Hermes is not a "big segregationist b*tch".

Whether or not celebrities deserve the special treatment, companies, especially luxury ones that depend on celebrities for exposure should be prepared to provide it. Whereas Hermes could have lightly inconvenienced themselves for a few minutes and potentially have gotten an endorsement on a very popular tv show, it's now a public relations disaster.

^Thanks for the article

On Wednesday, the New York Daily News weighed in with a different version of the story, saying Winfrey arrived just after the store had closed at 6:30 p.m. and there was no doubt about her identity. She saw shoppers still milling about inside and asked the Hermes staff at the door if she could dash in to make a quick purchase. A clerk said no, and so did a store manager.

A spokeswoman at Winfrey's Harpo Productions confirmed the Daily News version of the story.

Hermes closes its door at 6:30. That is store policy. Just because Oprah is a celebrity doesn't mean that she deserves to be let in at whatever time she wants. Also the north African comment was denied by both sides.

Excellent, Excellent article!!!

I don't think OPrah to be unreasonable. She has built a fortune because of it.
I guess we have to wait till September :(

i think this has been blown way out of proportion... it's only a big deal and so humiliating to her because she's a star. for anyone else, if they've closed and you didn't make it in time, then tough. i think an apology is only necessary if she was truly snubbed by the staff

^agreed. After reading what really happened, Hermes has no reason to even issue and apology.

Curious----'A problem with North Africans'? Lord, what kind of comment is that? Doesn't North Africa consist of countries like Egypt, Morocco, Libya, ect.? I hate racial slurs, but why didn't they just say 'Africans' instead of 'North Africans'? :ermm:
Whoever made that up doesn't have a geographically clueless

Just trying to think of something else to talk about, hahaha

They just talked about this on E!, what they said what TOTALLY DIFFERENT. they said that Oprah was denied entrance because she arrived at the store 15 mintues after the store was closed so the staff denied her entrance. they didn't bring race into it AT ALL. The show kind of made it out like Oprah just threw a hissy fit b/c she wasn't allowed in and she's a celebrity.

That was really weird.

Oh, so then Oprah was at fault...So these 8 pages of ranting were worthless?

I was reading that Oprah was gonna say something about Hermes, I dont mean to be rude, but most of the women who watch Oprah couldn't afford Hermes, and even if they could, I dont think Hermes would care anyway.

Same thing this evening on eyewitness news - Channell 7.

They made no mention of the North African statement( which both side agree that the was never said - as mentioned in the Washington Post.)

Look,if it is the case- I don't think Oprah had a hissy fit.

I think it MAY have been someone in HER "camp" that had a fit and behaved Divalike- but Oprah......NAH!

She is too reasonable and has too much class.IMO
