^ Cosmo

Anytime I read those articles, they purport that men want their women to dress like hookers. Well, those aren't my men ^_^

I was just thinking about how, even though I don't care for the word feminine--just because it was so emphasized by the bizarre people I grew up around--nonetheless it's an enduring element of my style. Perhaps more so than ever, actually ... I wore more tailored, menswear things when I was younger than I do now.

My body is different now, of course ... I will still sometimes wear menswear trousers, but in general my body kind of dictates that I wear women's clothes. And that's fine ...

I also feel that there's an in-between age where you're both too old and not old enough to wear certain things. And some tailored, menswear looks fall into that category for me ...

I agree that it's about how you feel, and I also think it's impossible to generalize (thank goodness) about men. You never know who's going to appreciate your look ... or what about it they're going to appreciate ... and whoever doesn't, well, they're welcome to Rocky Road or chocolate mint or Barbie doll or whatever flavor it is they like :p

I feel no pressure to dress for guys and anything feminine thing I like, I like for myself. I don't even see how that would be appealing anyway if the female clearly looks uncomfortable in what she's wearing. I recently looked at some online article about what men like to see their women in just out of curiousity. Every single outfit description sounded really boring. No wonder I never look at a magazine like Cosmo.

So true!!! I used to try to dress for guys when I was young and dumb, but you know what? The thing guys like the most is confidence, so the best thing to do is dress in an outfit that make you feel confident. Thus, it is a better strategy not to dress for guys but to dress in your own personal style.

I could not care less about dressing for men. I dress for myself and wear clothes that I feel comfortable. I absolutely hate those cosmo articles and almost every article that say women have to dress this and that way to get boyfriend, great job etc.
If I go job interview ofcourse I dress myself bit differently but never wear clothes that I dont feel like me, but those articles just try to put women in one box.

It is true that guys like more women who looks comfortable in her clothes and body no matter if you aren´t sporty one, thin one etc. you can look whatever but as long as you feel comfortable you will look that way also and that is appealing.

As I am getting older the less I care about others opinion and I feel more confident every day [ofcourse I have off days]. I guess when I am at my 50s I will feel the best. hahah.

softgrey I am sure you will have boyfriend sooner or later, you seem to be such a sweet person :)

Just got home from Roskilde festival. I pretty much wore a trilby hat 24/7 for 10 days straight. It was so so practical. Now I'm going cold turkey (as I am with beer, :innocent:)
I've never been a hat person before, but this 'experience' has made me want to, I'm now on the look out for nice hats to wear when I just don't bother doing anything with my hair ^_^

I HATE those articles where men are asked to say what men like women to wear, or even worse when they take street style photos and get men to 'rate' and comment on the outfits. Unfortunately, it doesn't just seem to be the media who seem to believe that women should dress to pander to the perceieved - frequently mistakenly - preferences of men. Ever since I was about 14 I've always been told to wear this or not wear that otherwise 'I would never get a boyfriend'.

Having said that I do have a fairly 'feminine' style, and as much as I love the androngynous look on other people, it looks a bit odd on me

I wasn't sure where to post this, but i'm still currently in college. I'm 20 years old, and looking at my closet, i recently noticed it's very bare. I donated over half of my wardrobe to a homeless shelter a month ago. Usually what i wear are basic t-shirts, a nice pair of jeans, with some flip flops or gladiators. You'd think by now that I'd know what my style is, however, I'm still not too sure. I don't think I'm into flashy clothing, I think I'm into very basic kind of preppy clothing. I noticed the pieces i kept in my closet were my lacoste polos, button ups, cardigans, and simple things like that. What I'm trying to do is expand on that, and I do want lots of colors, fits, somewhat trendy clothing since I am still very young. What would be some great stores that are moderately priced with nice quality, that still have a young feel? I know that i am HORRIBLE at mixing and matching, and when i go shopping i get too much of 1 thing, or get really boring things i can't dress up at all

Hello, I was not too sure where to post this but because it is on the topic of my style, I decided to post it here. Anyways, i don't know but I think I would describe my style as "hipster"-(My friend told me what I was wearing one day was "hipster", so i went with "hipster."). I like vintage clothing(mostly shoes), blazers, fedoras, leather jackets, loose tees, but i also like dresses & skirts. Mostly dark colors. I am so all over the place its crazy! Well I was basically wondering what would you guys think if a person was dressing up differently everyday? Would you think that one does not have a mind of its own or is just dressing according to their wishes? Also, as I said previously, I like leather jackets but when I wear I feel like too of a rule breaker/bad. (I am the most innocent person you'd probably meet so it doesn't really match up my personality) Do you think a leather jacket is too tough for someone like me? I am very very sorry if this can not be included in this thread!

i don't know if this is significant...

i have an overwhelming desire to iron...
iron iron iron...
i want to see everything all pressed and pristine...

odd...isn't it?...
:p

softgrey
i don't iron my clothes :ninja: only these pieces that i have to iron... like elegant white blouse, dress etc.
well... is that making my style a bit grungy or cool? 'cause it's definitely not preppy, with no-ironed clothes! :p

@ softgrey:

You should definitely lie down and wait for it to pass... :p

Softgrey I've always done the same. I iron everything. Not even just clothes,I can't put fresh sheets on my bed unless they are ironed :ninja:

I'm trying to embrace a more Mod look at the moment. Right now I'm looking like a female Morrisey, which has been met with mixed reactions but I really don't care. Morrisey is God.

dumbfairy your look must be cool and soo original! :)

well I'm trying to make my style more eclectic... 'cause i was only classic, same colors, same clothes, same accessories... so boring! i want to give a twist to my style, something like Olivia Palermo does... but i don't know when to look for inspiration

Well today a shop assistant told me that she admired the way that I dressed like a 12 year old school girl...I'm not sure she worded it as well as she could have, but I think there was a compliment in there somewhere. Where I'm not sure. On reflection I am wearing a striped dress like the kind we could wear at primary school during the summer, worn with pink welly boots and a pink umbrella shaped like a heart, but still. A 12 year old indeed. Less Morrissey than I was hoping for.

From seeing your post in the what I'm wearing today thread... I don't think that was the best of comments... You looked nothing like a school girl!

I was just wondering how you are all coping with this hot wet weather we seem to be getting in the uk just now... Or certainly in Edinburgh.... I can't remember the last day it did not rain! I'm finding it sooooooo tricky.... I keep ending up having awkward hot moments...

I have hardly been in Aberdeen for the past eight weeks,a long holiday in Singapore,1-2 days a week down in Edinburgh and a lot of time at my Mothers in London. But it has been difficult to dress wherever I have been! Yesterday up here was incredibly humid and then rained for well over half of the day. Had to get my pink Hunters on in August! It's becoming increasinly frustrating having to carry both an umbrella and a coat with me at all times just in case it does rain. I'm finding a boating blazer has become my best friend. I don't think the same applies to you but we are due snow already by mid September. No wonder I own so many clothes, trying to adapt to the changing seasons!

Snow is September... OMG! I could not cope with that... its tooo early even for me and I enjoy winter fashion... A blazer and a brolly is prob a better option than my mac i keep reachiong for...

i don't know if this is significant...

:p

strange you say that...
i picked up a button down shirt to wear it yesterday and had this bizarre desire (no...compulsion) to iron it - and so i did.... the first thing i have ironed in, i don't know, easily 5 yrs... and i thought 'i should really iron things more often'...

but i think it's all about balance....for me anyway.. when i crave that kind of pristine-ness.. i always want something else to be a bit 'off' - in my case it's probably my hair.. which usually looks pretty wild and unkept i think.. and then at least it's a more relaxed combination..

but i got this image while i was ironing of tilda swinton in I Am Love (that film really had an impression on my ideas about style, i think...i keep bringing it up :p) with these beautifully tailored, perfectly pressed clothes.. such a minimalist, manicured vision to behold. there's something inspiring about that..

I absolutely hate my style right now.
All I'm wearing is grey. Thick cotton Fat Face t-shirts (which, tbh, I love), semi-skinny jeans and boots with an unlined tailored jacket with the sleeves rolled up.
It's become my sort of 'comfortable' outfit.
I don't know if I like it or not..
I've been told that neutrals drain me completely (I agree..) but I'm not into bright colours (I feel like a beacon when I wear them) and I despise patterns apart from simple, regimented stripes or maybe spots.
It's my minimalist finally coming out into what I wear, but I find it incredibly dull seeing as I can't afford minimal masterpieces!
