Pictures Of Your Magazine Collection

My Mom said give them to a senior center or a nursing home - a lot of the older women may love looking through them... ^_^

Has anyone attempted to make a Vogue table, like Mademoiselle Agnès?

^An mess up my precious copies? No way

Hmm, I got the impression from Agnès she wasn't fussed about the condition of hers either. Stomping all over them in 5" heels. Moving piles upon piles of magazines can be tiring, as I experienced today. I'm constantly on the hunt for space.

It looks really clever and stylish but in reality I like going through my issues regularly so it would be highly impractical since I'd have to mess up the table just to get one issue. I guess Agnes doesn't go through hers.

I totally get what you mean. The piles in my room are enormous and need some serious reorganisation, but I simply can't be bothered.

I can't afford to keep too many really. The amount I have in storage already is scary. I've got to pick my battles wisely!

me either, which is why I normally just go through the issues that I like and keep the ads + editorials that I like and then recycle the rest. I keep a binder full of magazine tears (that store well if you use those transparent plastic paper covers). I just did that this weekend with many of the US Vogue and US Elle that I don't want to keep.

I generally keep my Interview & W Magazine's intact because of the large format, one day I might go through those and frame some of those photographs lol

I don't find that I ever re-read any of the articles after years, or I can find them online if necessary so I never bother about keeping those.

just a suggestion, if you don't want to part with some of the editorials :flower:

^ Yes, I understand....I am always torn by the 'historic' value of the intact magazine and the 'worthwhile' part that to me is almost always the good ads and eds, which can easily be put in page protectors and binders...I truly doubt I will be going back five years to read what Andre Leon had for breakfast before the Dior show, if you know what I mean... Just out of curiosity, how much do guys spend a month on magazines? I buy Vogue Paris every month and I usually get Vogue Italia and i-D but I try to limit myself.. sadly.

I really don't spend that much anymore, not even on subscriptions, which can save a lot of money. The Daily Mail has got into the habit of printing vouchers where you can get Harper's Bazaar for half the price, so I usually wait for that and then buy it. Aside from that, I'd maybe buy one other high fashion magazine a month, usually Vogue Espana. Sometimes I go through a phase of buying the weekly magazine, Look, which talks more about the high street.

For a very long time, I used to buy lots of magazines each month, with various editions of Vogue as my core purchase, but these days, I don't often open a magazine and feel like I've stepped into a world that's anywhere new or special.

I'm sad to say on a monthly basis I buy, or am subscribed to; British Vogue, British Elle, British Harper's Bazaar, British Marie Claire (not sure why), British InStyle, British GQ, US Harper's Bazaar, US Vogue, US Elle, W, Elle Decoration, Interview, V, i-D, Wonderland, Pop, Love, Another Magazine, GQ Style... and then weekly wise I buy Grazia. I'll buy Vogue Paris or Vogue Italia as and when I like the cover/editorials.

Which is why I've gotten myself into such a magazine pickle. Too many. It also explains why I also have no money each month. Same goes with publications like Numero or L'Officel.

I do feel that if a person is getting inspiration, entertainment and information from them, it's always better to spend money on magazines than it would be to squander it on something like cigarettes, where you really would have nothing to show for it.

But you do reach the point where you start having fantasies about dedicating an entire room to act as a library for your collection, which is great, until you have to move house, and the whole thing then becomes a curse of epic proportions.

I almost never buy VP and so on (out of sight expensive here if you can find them!), but I have subscriptions to pretty much all the American fashion/celeb mags, probably 10 all together....The subscriptions can be dirt cheap- like $14/year for US Vogue, so it isn't that much really...As TR said, I can think of many worse things to spend some money on...B)

I'm a long time subscriber to US Vogue (used to subscribe to Vogue Paris and Italia for a time) so it's about 7€ + and I buy every month at least 2 or 3 other Vogue editions to go throughout the month with a fashion magazine (it changes from time to time but mostly I buy some Vogue Italia or Vogue Spain or Vogue China issues that I find interesting.) So for me my budget every month is about: 50€ (Vogue China/Nippon/Uk are from oversees so I buy them on ebay which is expensive with the shipping fees). From time to time I spot some cool issues of Harper's Bazaar or GQ Style or Vogue Hommes Japan.

I always buy US Vogue and I subscribe to The New Yorker (which isn't a fashion magazine I know but...). Other then that I'll buy which ever magazine I find interesting because of the content, the cover, etc. So sometimes Elle, Marie Claire, W, ect. And whenever a new issue of Lula comes out I buy that. So I guess on average I spend $20 or so a month on magazines.
My problem really is that since I'm a college student I can't afford to buy all the lovely magazines I want too. And believe me I do wish I could buy international editions of magazines. However I can't find a reason to buy Vogue Paris if I can't read the content. So the only international editions of magazines I'll really get are in English. The only time I'd consider buying an international mag if I didn't speak the language is if I'm traveling abroad I might buy one as a souvenir.

See, I don't really read the articles in English language fashion magazines that often, so that's how I justify my purchases. I rarely find articles in fashion magazines to be worth reading at all, they're always about the same things.

There was a time when I used to buy around 15 magazines every month. But I'm suffering from a magazine depression. Nowadays I can't even be bothered to buy Vogue Us or Vogue Italia.

Ditto. The last article I read in a fashion magazine was one about dirty hair in March's W.
Anyway, until a few months ago I used to buy 10-12 magazines a month but I have now decided to limit myself at 6 magazines a month: Vogue US, Paris, Italia & Japan, W and Interview and then a few bi-annual magazines like Love, AnOther, Arena Homme+, Vogue Hommes International and Elle Collections. The reason is that things got out of hand and I was constantly broke from buying magazines that I didn't really want and barely flipped through once I got home and the rush of the new purchase had wore off so now I only buy the ones I really like. So when I don't buy bi-annual magazines I spend about 63 euros a month on magazines.

I would love to see some new or updated magazine collection pictures.. I actually have bit of a dilemma, do I protect my magazines by putting them in plastic bags? Obviously this will make them less prone to dust etc. But each time I decide to read one of my magazines do I really want to have to keep taking them out of their plastic? I had a look on www.bagsunlimited.com, I don't know what ones to go for so I'd appreciate it if perhaps some of you lot can message me the ones you all go for or I could look elsewhere I guess.

I'm also with some of you, I'm restricting myself in the number of magazines I purchase, it is the recession after all. Finding it difficult, I no longer buy the likes of UK Elle, Vogue Paris, US version although I can't resist the March and September issues. I need to be more strict on myself and say NO to them even if I have the money. I have a list of magazines I'm sticking with, it includes Dazed & Confused, Harper's Bazaar UK, LOVE, Lula, Vogue Hommes International, Vogue Italia, Vogue UK etc.

^ I have some of Bags Unlimiteds' bags, and they are great, but here is my take: If the magazine is in a risky place- dusty, direct sunlight, near a heater and like that, or if it is rare and fragile, I think a bag with a cardboard backing board is a good idea (I have my Vogues from the 60s in them) But for the newer ones not in danger of any sort, I would stack them horizontally and enjoy them- which is the whole idea! ;)
