i found these two collections on a japanese site..
i know that Issey Miyake was once associated with labels that had these names and it does seem reminiscent of issey's aesthtic....
does anyone have any info on these brands...?
are they associated with issey miyake in any way at this point?
any connection at all?..

any info is greatly appreciated...
thanks in advance..

Hmm... I'm confused  on that site above, because it says those are new arrivals but as far as I knew, Plantation was no longer in production. Naoki Takizawa took over that line in the 80's before he took over Issey mens or womens, and I have read that Plantation is now no longer in existence.

and all I know about Final Home is that it was originally based around the concept of this one jacket that could sort of transform into different ways, like a piece of survival gear... and has since turned into a full brand, sort of focusing on multi-dimensional clothing. it was started in the early 90s and was designed by Kosuke Tsumara who used to design with Issey. I've never heard of anyone else taking over so maybe he is still the designer. :flower:

ETA: I found this thread I posted recently with an interview with Naoki, where it states that Plantation is "now-defunct"

thanks for the link inaya...that's a good interview...

i know that plantation is supposed to be defunct...
and i am not sure what issey's involvement with final home was originally..
but there was something...they had it in the same showroom at the very beginning..

that is why i am wondering about these labels now...
kind of not sure if it's anything related...just wondering..

yeah I am curious now also ^_^

and about the Final Homme -> Issey connection, all I have ever heard is just that Kosuke used to work with or under Issey before venturing out to do FH. but I never have learned that Issey was involved beyond endorsement maybe. but I could be well wrong of course!

would be great if anyone out there has any more or any updated info :D

Yes FH is about low priced apocaliptic :-) survival gear. I think their famous coat is a nylon one with a lot of pockets so you can fill them with anything (old newspapers, for instance) to get yourself warm. I read somewhere that FH belonged to IM's "universe" :)

Here is some link:

It was stated that in September 1994 ISSEY MIYAKE INC. started distribution and sales of Final Home.

Their homepage:

found the updated organization chart.
http://www.a-net.com/top/corp/company02.html

affiliated companies on the left side: from top, miyake design studio (established in 1970), isseymiyake inc (1971), and A-net inc (1996).
and their subsidiary companies on the right.
at this point, plantation and final home are affiliated to A-net.
miyake himself is not on the list of the executives of A-net.
(also he is not on the executive board of isseymiyake inc. and im inc has been under nobuyuki ota since 2000.)
so it could be that those labels are very remotely associated with miyake now.
the founding father of the group, to them

thank you runner...:flower:...
so mercibeaucoup is under the 'umbrella' as well...
i like quite a few of their things....though they remind me of old issey as well and sometimes vivienne westwood...

the plantation things are so reminiscent of the original plantation by issey...
especially these items...i like so many of these...

is there any point of sales listed anywhere on the site...
is it available outside of japan anywhere?

softgrey, japanese stores only on the list unfortunately.
I heard no one sells it in the US at present.
anyway I'll ask them if it is available anywhere else.

you're welcome nqth, softgrey
checked a bit more, and if you are interested, Mr. miyake was a representative and ceo of miyake design studio until recently, but it was taken over by midori kitamura.
he is at miyake issey foundation started in 2004 that runs the museum, 21_21 (I posted in the upcoming shows and exhibits thread).

thanks runner...much appreciated..

i saw your post about 21_21 exhibits in the art and design forum and i did some research...

it's fascinating...i had no idea about it...
i think we need a thread about 21_21 all by itself...
i was thinking it should be in designers and collections because issey is involved...
but maybe it's best to put it in art and design after all...

so, a department store in taiwan called idee is the only place that sells plantation outside japan right now.

^ thanks runner. :flower: do you know who designs it now? since naoki says the brand is defunct? :o

I don't know sorry
maybe it is supposed to be what is called character brand now rather than designer one??
will try reading what he said, to see what he meant by the word.

thanks runner...

inaya...
i think that even though it has echoes of the original plantation label...
this stuff is no where near as sophisticated in terms of design, etc...
the pricepoint is not really totally at the designer level either...
so i wouldn't be surprised to find out that there is no one designer for the brand...but rather a collaborative design team/studio...

runner + softgrey - thanks, it makes sense :flower:

you're welcome
so I read it. it's the writer who said the word, defunct.
I guess it wanted to mean that such plantation line as naoki used to take the helm of is no more.
or just its lack of research?

As far as any kind of rep. outside of Japan is concerned, I only know that Final Home shares affiliation with A-Net Europe along with Tsumori Chisato in France.

have been thinking that having a final home coat right about now would make sense...

:ninja:...
