Pom Pom Power

I wish I had a camera to show you all my pom pon scarf, I finished it last night. :(

Instead of trying to find some ribbon, I took 3 long strands of yarn and kinda braided the pom pons in it. It was very easy and no hanging ends from tieing the pom pons to the ribbon. And I can unbraide it to add more or arrange them differently. ^_^ :D

congrats crazy k...
:flower:

what colours did you use?...

me too!..i used a cd for a guide...and i hate cutting out circles...
that's the most annoying part for me...
how many different sizes did you use hanne and ocean?... :P

I used 3 differnt sized Great Grapefruit size, Tennis Ball size and Golf Ball size

as for how I tied them together..I tried to explain it in a post that vanished..nevermind that.. :innocent: because I was so lousy at explaining it.
Anyways sometimes a picture says it all..I left some strands longer than others and used those to tie the pom poms close together. I made a extremely tin scarf (only two hoops (?) on a knitting pin) and attached all the pom poms to that (using long strands to attach the pom poms to the scarf).

ok good...i can handle 3 sizes...

butt i can't knit...so i will have to use a ribbon or something...

I'm wondering if I could make really small pom poms (the size of glass marbles) or if that would be too difficult..and wear them as a necklace..paired with other kinds of necklaces..

try, you can make them using circles the size of quarters... and then trim them smaller.

my friend and i were in the marni store last week...we were like lunatics over all the pom poms...
great pics hanne...thx! :flower:

I'm gonna try to make one of those 1/2 and 1/2 color ones... I'll let you know how it goes.

question...i keep having trouble getting the pompom off the rings...the rings always wind up ripping...is there a way to avoid this?...i hate having to make new rings...

yeah... i just made new rings each time. i think if you used thick cardboard or maybe plastic (lucite?) then they wouldnt rip...

 they are such a great and easy way to modify your outfit, just like bows and ribbons. i loooove them
haven't made pom poms since second grade, wonder if i can still do them.

Softgrey - I'm sure you have tons of shoeboxes and paper shopping bags. Why not sacrifice one of them? I used a strong thin brown paper and had no problems with mine :)

And I used all sorts of colors to answer the previous question. Mom and I are like insane knitters/crotecheters so over the years we have gotten a pretty good yarn collection (leftovers etc). But I tried to use blue tones (dark blue, turquise) and some pinks and dark green. It looks hmm.. interesting.

I remember Softie metioning the yarn prices somewhere and I remember them sounding expencive. Here 3-4$ is a normal price for a 100g (3.5 ounces) yarn and anything over 7$ I concider expencive. (Just took a look at JoAnns web page and the prices were cheap. I guess I got confused somewhere)

thanks crazy k...

i'm actually usiing brown cardboard for the rings...i think the problem is that i make my pompoms really full and fluffy...which makes them harder to get through the hole...i made the hole a bit bigger now...but it didn't really help much... i've taped the rings back together and left a tear...then i can pull the ring off more easily...

about the yarn... i just got a big bag full...my best friend is from michigan and she had to go home for a week... so i asked her to find me some while she was there...
i didn't get to see the yarn beforehand...but she got me some good basics and now it's full steam ahead... some of it is pretty thin...which could be good for the smaller pompoms...

so far i've only made solid pompoms...but i think i may get adventurous and start mixing... :P :D

Thats what I did..but after reusing the cardboard rings 2-3 times I had worn them out and had to make new ones.

I haven't seen any pom pom makes...and no, I haven't seen the new Br Vogue, the british magazines I could get on the Canarie Islands were all november (!) and a few december issues. My husband is in London right now so he'll bring me back the new Vogue ( it's ridiculously overpriced in Denmark ..about 8£ !!) ..can't wait to see the ideas!

well let me know what you think when you see the pics in vogue.
