Prada Group acquires Versace for €1.25 billion

It was definitely time for Donatella to go, BUT I do feel she deserved to go out with an epic collection and show full of her iconic designs from over the years. A retrospective with her favourite Versace models/women would have sufficed. The fact that her last collection was FW 25, which I found not good, leaves me disappointed.
COMPLETELY agree. a very grandesque flashy goodbye for Donatella via a campaign / show / activation (imo) would have brought soooo much revenue from Donatella fans that we all are !! a miscalculation from the suits in my opinion.

Do you already have any names in mind?
Really not sure, we haven't seen his work yet. Going by those few photos of him in his apartment shared in another thread, I'd say someone like Benjamin Bruno or Carlos Nazario, but that's just a shot in the dark. Always happy to be pleasantly surprised though (personally, I'd like someone strong and experienced who can truly elevate a designer's vision, someone like Joe McKenna or Karl Templer but we'll see).

Karl Templer is one of my favorites but he already works with Dolce & Gabbana and in any case in my imagination he doesn't really fit with Versace. Talking to a friend who doesn't know the environment and the industry very well, the name of Anna Dello Russo came up. At first I teased her but maybe I'm curious to see what she would do and how she would do it.

I wouldn't normally associate Karl with D&G either but he's done wonders for them, no?

ADR I really like as well, I'll always love her L' Uomo Vogue, but just like with Carine, her vibe goes well with the current image and perception we have of Versace, but I have a feeling that Dario's vision will be a departure from that.

I would love Carline Cerf, she did it in the 90’s… i imagine a lot of jewelry, gold, tacky but funny.

What is quiet luxury for Versace anyway? F/W 2008?
Donatella gagged?

In 2018, Donatella Versace reached a $2.1 billion deal to sell her family’s company to Michael Kors Holdings, which subsequently changed its name to Capri Holdings.
Prada Group has agreed to acquire Versace from Capri Holdings for €1.25 billion ($1.38 billion), after negotiating a discount of more than €200 million due to the impact of US president Donald Trump’s trade war.

We don't have to feel sorry for Donatella at all — she got out of a declining business at the right time. The devaluation is quite insane, even though Capri clearly overpaid back then.

Honestly, €1.25 billion for Versace is a very good deal for Prada. The timing, with the trade war, only worked in their favor.
Current market conditions may be difficult, but Versace remains one of the most iconic Italian brands, with strong global name recognition. It needs to be modernized and updated in almost every way — but for once, this could actually turn into a success story for Prada.

I doubt Prada or anyone else will be able to turn a house around that specialises in pure pastiche. Obviously I’m not as well informed as the experts here, and the only thing I know about Gianni was that he was shot dead. This thread made me want to google some of his older work and yeah…how many p*rnstar dresses and pimp shirts can you sell? Maybe this perception is ignorant, but believe me when I say the average consumer thinks Versace is nothing but Barocco prints and other wear-it-once BDSM costumes. Clearly the Capri CEO thought so as well. Is there a subtle difference between Gucci, D&G, Plein and Versace? Yes. Can their target buyer explain it? No.
