Prada Menswear F/W 2024.25 Milan

I actually wonder whether Raf has been preparing to take over Prada at some point, stick as long as Miuccia can and then move somewhere else or just do this gig for few more sessions and then Miuccia will keep going by herself?

It is interesting what in a long run they're cooking as Prada's profit is soaring partly due to Raf's influence.

According to BoF and WWD, there has been talks of succession plans for Prada, which makes sense as both Miuccia and Bertelli are in their 70s. My best guess is that Raf will eventually continue on his own as creative director. Personally, I'm more worried about the group's future. There are plans of handing over the group to their son, Lorenzo, but he says that he might consider selling the company to a become part of a group.

That's really interesting because I've read somewhere (financial times probably) interview with Lorenzo and it appears he has been groomed to take over the company so I'd say they will keep the ownership with Raf as creative director. It's quite grim tbh as Miuccia, imho, is holding his "aesthetic" on the rope so he is not going full on.

Not the massacre towards Simons! I love to see it.

The question here is: will Raf destroy Prada (when he becomes the only CD), the same way he destroyed Calvin Klein??
Considering that Prada is has more streamlined than Calvin Klein and that Prada is generally known for being more visually "tricky", I think he has a chance here. Of course the specifics will depend on the design director. We no longer have Zambernardi and Mulier is enjoying himself at Alaïa, so I hope that the current one is able to materialise their ideas into desirable products.

The problem with Raf is that he has misunderstood "tricky" with "freakie"...

The cut on those huge blazers is truly hideous, such a waste of good, heavy fabric.

The collection is terribly bland, it does look Prada but the recycled, watered down version of a formerly interesting brand. Even really questionable Prada collections of the past had good ideas in them (enough to actually inspire lesser designers and stylists to try out new things), something like this is already so lame I don’t think anyone could get any inspiration from it.

Hoping the womenswear has some pulse to it…

Never forget the Jil Sander days. Those collections still remain chic and timeless. I’m still hoping that he can go back to that. If there was ever a brand to bring back intellectual fashion, it’s Prada.

The architect behind the greatness of the Jil Sander days wasn’t Raf unfortunately.
I’m mad that I forgot his name but he was the brilliance in that sea of pretentiousness.

Patrick van Ommeslaeghe.

Patrick Van Ommeslaeghe.

God bless him.

I had no idea. Thank you for this info. I will be doing more research on him.

On the subject of Jil Sander and Patrick Van Ommeslaeghe, could someone explain to me what the "Couture Trilogy" is? I hear that term all the time when discussing Raf Simons.

The last three collections under Raf's tenure were all inspired by classic, 1950/1960's Couture. Fall 2011, Spring 2012 and his finale, Fall 2012.
