If your grandma was a stylish amazing classic woman! I find prada infinitely better, and with peices that are much more classic and of better quality It gives a woman class rather than skankiness - but I guess opinions differ

Then theres more mainstream designers like Sass & Bide who are trying to pull off the conservative look but aren't having much luck. there is sex in Prada's clothes, but obviously you seem to be losing the point

It's such a misconception that Prada is for frumpy conservatives. There's so much more to it than that, it's a lot more subtle and not as blatant as Versace's sexuality. It's sort of like how your boyfriend buys you that icky uncomfortable lingerie that is so obvious because it's transparent and all lacey, when you'd prefer the comfy and simple Bonds
It's true that sex sells but it's how sex is shown. The past few years sex has been blatant and p*rn*gr*ph*c. But the 50s was, in their own way, 'sexy'. It emphasised the womanly figure which to them was a lot more sexy than the waifs seen more often nowadays. Then if you go further back, each era there was the focus on legs which was more taboo and o them that was sexy, etc etc. But now, I think we've seen enough. Everyone's seen Kate Moss's vagina, Pamela's breast, so that's just boring and yawn-worthy. A new definition of sexiness is coming in

i don't think it's a 'new' definition so much as a broadening of the term...just as there are different kinds of sex...there are different kinds of sexy...i think the definitionis expanding ...

that sexy, drag queen versace stuff will always have its market...but now there are better options for someone like me, for example, who prefer to be appreciated and respected for the things they have to say rather than their T&A... B)

For example, I am abosolutely in love with this dress.... Somehow I don't think it would look that great on my grandma (sorry grandma), but then you never know.... lol

I don't think it's a "new" definition, as in never-seen-before, but I don't think it's a broadening either. Sex, sexiness and looking good has always been important, it's just that society's definition of what's fresh and exciting/provocative vs. stale and trashy keeps changing.

I think subtle, classy (sedate or boring, if you like...) sexiness is always in style; the appeal of the practically p*rno-chic sexiness we've seen for some years is wearing very thin...

I love this dress too, and I'm only 17. Ok, maybe 'new' wasn't the best word to use, but an alternate definition of sexiness. I think you all raised really good points, the blatant p*rn*gr*ph*c sexuality is always going to have its audience and fans, but just the dominant 'trend' (not the best word either) - ok, the dominant ambience is going to be more subdued, since we're all shocked out (another masturbation ad for Gucci/Ungaro/etc? *Yawn*). It's like how even Prada even got into the sex thing with its see through raincoat and getting Eva H on the catwalk, and the latest Versace show's daywear was more conservative. Oh and just because I like Prada and a more subtle sexuality, doesn't mean I don't like Gucci or hate Versace.

im 41, (turning 42 on friday) and i think i look great in prada

I think people just need to mix things together to find their true style & their right amount of sexy-ness...

Wow, you must have all have grandmas that are really young... And besides, I referenced MY grandma....

Second, when i said "Prada for the 40+"? I meant in reference to someone who stated that was the age range for Prada. What I'm saying is that it's for young people as well. It's not prude and conservative....

Suppose that we all have different tastes.. but I disagree with the numbers (60%, 40%) but I think I'm probably biased.

I remember as a kid I used to watch the catwalk shows and just be amazed at Gianni Versace with the supermodels, and it was the ultimate fashion fantasy. True, Versace used to have a huge impact on fashion in those days, as for now I'm not so sure since the pendulum has swung to the other side. I'd hardly call Versace modern and innovative now - those descriptions are reserved for Sophie Kokosalaki, Albert Elbaz at Lanvin, Prada, Ferre, Lacroix and countless others. Okkkk I think I'm not making any sense now, but I tried

chanel classic suits buttoned to the top in every color...you're getting closer
