i'm missing colour and quirkiness from the NY collections! so disappointed from MJ & PS! both give me the feeling the 90s revival is on it's way. While for the past few seasons MJ & PS have emphasised youth, to me these collections just appear frumpy and dull, however much more mature.

I agree with you, Johnny, that the there´s also a last-century feel about these clothes, with all the frilled, buttoned-up blouses and small, snug-fitted jackets. It´s not very European last-century, though, but rather western-inspired to me ... think Scarlett O'Hara / Gone with the Wind or any other Gone-West-reference.

There are two outfits worn by Morgane Dubled and Madeleine Blomberg that are off-shouldered blouses, or dresses in the same spirit... the full collection is up on vogue.co.uk and gettyimages, style.com should follow shortly... I´m anxious to read what they are thinking, I guess they will like it though ...

Yes, spose I can see that too. Its a bit of a mish mash really. I guess the main point is - as others have mentioned - who is going to wear that?! It seems very bizarre to me, much less wearable by ordinary women than clothes by many so called avant guarde designers.

I can see how everyone's seeing Victorian, Edwardian, Mexican, and the like, but I don't think they had to go all that far for their references - this collection absolutely reeks of last season Prada, YSL, and Rochas. Not at all original, and not very well-proportioned either. That must be the dowdiest and most hip-enhancing cut of skirt I've seen in a long time.

The thing is, I never saw them as avant garde at all... they just do nice - and arguably very well crafted, wearable clothes that are normally not very difficult to wear, I definitely miss this aspect though in their S/S 2006 collection... We started to stock the collection starting from F/W 2005 and so far I didn´t have a lot of difficulties to see my customers in Proenza Schouler, now with all the frills and ruffles, it´s a totally different story... I find it quite silly, the way they put embellishment on those small jackets, especially the look on Elise ...

Don't get me wrong tricot, I don't think they're avant garde in the slightest - I was comparing their clothes to avant garde clothes. My view on their stuff is that it's essentially uptown NYC fashion for very rich uptown NYC females. What I was trying to say was that these types of clothes are actually more difficult for "real women" to wear than say something by comme or carpe diem, etc., which are (or at least can be) actually quite modest and unassuming.

Difficult in the sense of proportions, yes... the thing is, for avant-garde designers like Comme or Carpe Diem, you still need an attitude to wear the clothes, with Proenza... everybody could wear it as it´s just pretty, not anyhow subversive.

Well, I am sure some old rich uptown women will like it...........do they have that kind of bodies to wear them!?............you tell me!!!

Fashion now is all about easy and effortless, these clothing is so serious, trying too hard........love Doo.ri so far, sense of fresh air!!!

New York fashion is sooooo uptight - goodness do they never feel like just relaxing at all? I quite like the empire lines and Pride & Prejudice references (i also see the rochas infuence here) but, in its favour, its is more noteworthy that all the other rubbish I have seen form the NY collections this week. I do like some of the pieces. Not sure about the proprtions being wrong as much as different ....but I agree it might be difficult for most women to wear.

It's good, not their best. I agree that they were being playful with the volume and the shapes. Personally I think that worked out pretty well for this collection...

Half of it looks like it should be in a fall collection (all of those long sleeves and jackets!) I do adore those cropped pants though as well as the color pallette.
