Project Alabama S/S 06 New York

i really don't think i understand what you are saying scott...
can you re-phrase please?...

how is the styling not cohesive?...
what do you mean it's like dries...

are you talking about the actual clothes?...
in that case...that isn't the styling...it's the designs...

not sure i'm following...

What I mean is,is how everything is put together...the layering and everything...very much like Dries. Like the fitted jacket paired with the voluminous skirt, for example. And it is the designs too, yes. But I think she or whomever did the styling could have done a bit more or differently, perhaps.

I suppose cohesive wouldn't be the right term...but rather quite derivitive.

ah..alright...i see...
somewhat derivative yes...

but i think that it's a mood that is 'in the air'...
back to our neo-goth thing...
modern day jayne eyre and all that...
romanticism, victoriana...blah blah...

there are some designers that have always done that...
dries, ann d, etc....
but it seems that the rest of the fashion world is finally jumping on the bandwagon...

which means i look like less of a 'freak' these days...
but it also means that i have somehow become 'trendy'...:ninja:
how frightening is that?!?!.......

**anyway...
i think that the technique they are using is original even if the shapes aren't...

I like the techinque alot-not surprising-some of the star embroideries are really pretty,but... :D

Overall I don't like it very much. The outfits in #4 are nice.

Dries? hmm maybe but its too 'co-ordinated' to be really influenced by Dries ..and maybe that's the problem of this collection.. co-ordination
this should/could be more 'fun' more 'fluid' , more unexpected
another 'wintery' summer collection

thanks for the topic scott ;)

I love what Project Alabama stands for, and I think a lot of this is pretty and wearable, but ... none of it is calling my name. I think the prices are probably mostly fair or more than fair given the hours of hand-work in some of the pieces. I would love to own some, but I need something that will really inspire me to get out my checkbook--and that will stand up against the competition of other designers I really love

PS Agree with Lena, I had the same "Is this fall?" thought about the navy starlight looks. Navy's great for spring, but ...

I'm pushing the prices out of my head long enough to say that a lot of it is very pretty and summery and feminine, which I love.

I like it but i dont love it. I do like a lot of the flowy skirts and a few of the cardigans. I do love the beading work!

i just have una pregunta. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY is this girl on the runway?!

I feel bad, cause she is really ugly.:(

^ The have the whole "I feel sorry for her face" thing too.
That's why models don't smile. And the clothes they decided to put on her make her seem comedic.

poor girl... i'm sure she's very pretty, I've had worse pics

and I quite like the collection... it's my favorite so far (then again it's only sunday)

i'm not too impressed but i like some pieces, the dirndl, for example...:p
and i want the star skirt in the first post^_^

^^^this isn't a model thread. Please can we talk about the CLOTHES.

i'm opposite of you helena, i much prefer the old project alabama. It used to look so handiworked and like someone had sat on their farm making the clothes for weeks. Now it does look like a combo of dries and anthropologie and very overpriced.

I agree about the models v clothes comments. There are many inane threads about models on this board. This particular thread is usually of a higher standard (although the NYC catwalk appears to bring out not only rubbish clothes but rubbish commentaries on them); let's try to keep it that way.

As far as these clothes go, I think they are Ok, but not great. I've never really understood the appeal of PA, it's place among more high brow designers. It never really fitted with that in my head. Handmade clothes are fine, but that doesn't necessarily make them well or interstingly designed. However this seems a quite coherent, sensible collection of clothes, prett in places, dull in others. The yellow and black outfit is very nice.
