Quality Thigh-high boots

I am searching for a pair of black leather or suede thigh-high stiletto boots. Anyone know who is currently making a good quality pair? My budget is $500-ish, so those lovely Chanel's from last season are out of the picture....

I will be in New York in May, so I'm hoping that I might find some there... any New Yorkers know of a good place??
