Racial Diversity In Modeling

Not a single black model at Giorgio Armani. One Asian model and one mixed race model Pauline (although I'm convinced that Armani thinks she's just white). How much more blatant can he be?

That's typical Armani though. Not surprised. At. All.

Lineisy is the new token. I called that in NY.

I have to say though, I was surprised to see so much more MOCs at D&G.

And the casting at Bottega Veneta was extremely inclusive.

If there's only ever one spot in the industry for a black girl, and with the hyperfamous Willow Smith now moving in as well, does that mean Lineisy's career will be over before it's even begun? To be honest, I cannot stand either girl.

Willow Smith’s Modeling Career Takes Another Step Forward
By Eddie Roche | September 29, 2015

Willow Smith, the teen daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, who famously whipped her hair back and forth in 2011, just got a boost to her modeling career. It was announced today she’s signed with powerhouse agency, The Society Model Management, who represent names such as Kendall Jenner, Adriana Lima, and Lindsey Wixson. Smith has already modeled for Marc Jacobs, appeared in CR Fashion Book, and has been dubbed a ‘style star in the making’ by Vogue. Shall we remind you she’s still only 14?

She's way too young but I also want to see nepotism benefit a model of color for once. If Cara, Kendall, Bella, Gigi, Hailey, Georgia etc can have careers, so should girls like Willow.

^Agreed.

Also Willow aside, the industry lets us know that EVERY model of color is disposable and replaceable at any time.

Off-White only had one black model in a sea of blondes. Was Virgil scared he wouldn't appeal to the Europeans?

Actually looking at the collections in Paris so far, looks worse than Milan.

I completely agree. I actually asked this very question a while ago: Would a MOC who benefited from nepotism be embraced as much a white model?

It'll be interesting to see if Karl takes her up or not. Just about every socialite/celebutante/insta-model has worked for Chanel (Dellal, Hemingway, Devon, Edie, Georgia, Andie MacDowell's kid, Johnny Depp's kid, Cara, Kendall, Gigi, etc. except the Baldwins?) but I'm a bit cynical about that possibility...

That irked me so much. So freaking much. How many black designers do you see at the end of the runway? Not many. You have that opportunity and you only put one black model in your show? Insane.

^Virgil has never really been faithful to black models. I think the mens collection that he showed recently was the first time a black model was used.

Its sad because i think he feels as though he needs to cast white girls in order to branch himself away from the street category.

Foolish. He should be ashamed. With the state of diversity in the industry he should be helping. But you know let me stop myself because I can go on and on about his type.

*Patiently awaits Balmain*

Loved the diversity at Loewe! Wouldve loved to see Grace Bol, Amilna, Hyun, Herieth and Dylan too

estelle and alecia were the only moc at dior........... maida and rami still cast right? SO disgusting

^ Wangy was also there but like that increases anything. It was awful and sad really. I wasn't shocked though, Dior never has really embraced diversity under Raf. I at least expected to see Lineisy and Leila.

What I want to see is if Balenciaga lives up to least season casting.

Estelle, Alecia and Wangy at Dior I am so not surprised with them 3 moc out of 50 looks.
so Shameful!!

Wonder how Rihana felt watching the show front row, yikes. That was pretty much a kkk reunion.

I was thinking the same thing, you invited one of the most powerful music stars in the world to watch this crap? It was really painful to watch, If I were Rihanna I would have walked right out in the middle of the show.

39 girls at Nina Ricci, 0 black, 2 asian. Paris is just wearing me out this season. Urgh.
