Yuji Yamamoto, son of influential Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto, takes point in this six-shooter assault on Singapore’s vulnerable fashion scene with his RE.BIRTH multi-label store concept.
RE.BIRTH was created in 2010 to help nurture up and coming Japanese and Asian designers. Now that they are ready to leave the nest, the younger Yamamoto stands poised to launch them to stardom via Singapore’s own fashion incubator project, PARCO next NEXT.

The six aspiring Japanese fashion designers under his wing, including some who have trained under his father, will be featured in the new 334 square-foot pop-up store MAKE ONE’S MARK, at PARCO next NEXT
(Level 2, P2-28, PARCO Marina Bay, Millenia Walk) this 10th November to 26th December.

nocturne #22 seems to be the only brand that they support fully---
maybe they have invested in the company...
the others seems to be independent designers who they represent...

Ariki worked for Junya Watanabe for several years-
you can see the evidence in some of the work...
:P

i like cram jam chest...
some of it is really cute and funny...

womb bracante seems to be a store with vintage home stuff...
it's very nice and well edited...
reminds me of a store in NYC ...

Interesting. I assume that means more brands will be added to the line up of brands they represent every now and then? Good to see they full support Nocturne #22 though!

From the pictures you posted and from what I could find on the websites I really like Ariki and the Masaya Kushino shoes!

I hope there will be a pop-up store of this in Europe someday. This project looks so promising :woot:

I guess what they are fully supporting now could be those who got involved and suffered two years ago
including michiko (that whole collection that had to be suddenly abandoned and didn't go into production after all) and all those factories ?

yes, runner-
i am guessing that because they are also involved in production that they are doing it to help support the factories that yohji may have relationships with from all his years designing...
i know that he is always interested in supporting local artisans, etc...
so i guess this could be some of his influence here...

but-
it says that the nocturne collection this season is all recycled garments...
so i wonder about how that would work in terms of production...
obviously they still need someone to cut and sew the garments...
but i guess they don't need so much new textiles for this?...

this all just makes me even more curious...

yes that's what I actually wondered about. "entire collection created from recycled fabrics and garments" in that article posted in the other thread.
one of the possibilities I thought of is that something might have gone wrong in translation.
because I tried checking a few other reviews on the "nocturne #22" S/S 12 and none of them talks about it that way.
only a brief mention of remaked rugby shirts and recycled denim stuff from the other line "nocturne #23" incorporated into some of the looks on the runway.
but if nothing went wrong in communication between languages and it is just right, I guess that maybe they utilized all those fabrics that they had originally prepared for YY inc that had come to nothing back then. or bought other deadstock from them ?

I was also thinking that there might have been some mistake in the translation because the 'recycled fabrics' are really only clearly visible in the rugby stripe pieces...
and i thought the same as you- maybe the other textiles are 'deadstock'...

seems we have a bit of a mystery here...:P
 
Designers Launch New Guangzhou Label YMOYNOT

GUANGZHOU – Although better known for its mass-production fashion industry, Guangzhou is quickly building a name as one of China’s luxury fashion capitals.

Locally-based fashion brand Exception de Mixmind shot to fame back in March for first lady Peng Liyuan’s endorsement on husband Xi Jinping’s first official diplomatic trip as China’s new leader – Peng’s coat, suit and handbag were tailor-made by the homegrown brand. And now, Mao Jihong, the designer behind Exception de Mixmind has come together with cult Japanese fashion designer Yohji Yamamoto and Hong Kong counterpart Stanley Wong (of Anothermountainman) to create Guangzhou-based fashion brand YMOYNOT.

The brand made its first official appearance in a private catwalk event showcasing its Fall/Winter 2013 collection at W Guangzhou during the hotel’s grand opening on May 16, hosted by the three designers.

Titled “Ride Up”, the collection channeled the bohemian spirit of the wilderness with casual, flowing silhouettes and texture-heavy patchworks of lace, linen and wool characterized by rough-hewn edges.

The brand is named after a play on the words “why not?” and sets out to challenge fashion conventions with its oriental aesthetic and fashion-forward attitude. Yamamoto’s protégé Michiko Suzuki, who used to be the chief designer of his womenswear line, Y’s Red Label, leads the design team.

YMOYNOT’s first boutique is in Guangzhou’s Grandview Mall, 288 Tianhe Lu, Guangzhou.

it seems that technically this (F/W 13.14) is the second season of the label directed by michiko.
