Has anyone considered staying at hotel for their summer internships?

During my internship in NYC last summer, I stayed at the De Hirsch Residence (I can't remember quite how expensive it was, but I remember it being ridiculous even for NYC) It was a single room, had a community bathroom equipped with some cockroaches , no t.v, although it was in a nice part of Manhattan. I just didn't think it was worth the money.

I went back to NYC for fashion week, and ended up staying at "Sefarers and International House" (www.sihnyc.org). It's on 15th street (just a block from Union Sq), next to a whole foods, it's clean, the bathroom is right across the hall and is shared by one other room, it has a sink and t.v in its rooms, it's safe (I'm a 21 year old girl that would often come home at midnight), and get this, it was only $80 a night.

I'll def. be going back the next time I go to NY.

I don't know how long you can stay there (I stayed there for about 3 weeks), but it doesn't hurt to ask. I wish I would have stayed there all summer instead of De Hirsch.

Hi everyone, I'm planning on moving to nyc this fall to pursue my dreams and also to move my label from Atlanta. Anyone have any tips on areas to live in the city ? I'm looking mainly for a studio where I can just relax and design, but in a nice area. Any ideas ? Thanks!

pinksatin, I also heard that Webster were booked out for the coming summer, as is NYU dorms actually. There's another women's residence in the Lower West side called something like the Markel or Marquel, I need to get the exact name off a friend who's applying to stay there (US$1300-$1400 a month).

Another alternative is to look at a serviced apartment. From memory they were about US$100 per night starting for a studio so that's quite pricey also.

Greenwich will be quite expensive just so you know.

You could also look up Williamsburg(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Williamsburg,_Brooklyn) in Brooklyn. It's where a lot of the creative "hipsters" reside. It's a haven of music, awesome vintage stores, and art, and it's not as expensive.

Granted it's not in "the city" (Manhattan), but it's not that far away from it, and it's a slight departure from the sounds of the city. It's almost as if you forget that you are in NY when you're there.

There are also surrounding communities by Williamsburg, that are just as nice.

fashionicon, yeah I totally know..it is pretty expensive there. I actually found a studio on the Upper East Side for 1150 a month so I'm really interested in that. I found it on www.nycdwellers.com. Great place when looking for a studio or apartment in the city.

I'll have to look into the burg, haven't done much research on areas outside of the city. I'd really like to live in the city and experience that. Thanks!

Hi everyone! I'm interning this summer in NYC and I'm planning on staying at NYU summer housing. Can anyone suggest which halls are good? I wanna stay in an apartment style and I believe these are the choices I have: coral towers, lafayette street residence, third ave. north, water street and second street. Would really2 appreciate any inputs from NYU students. And also, which of the above halls are nearest to 60 east, 42nd street? Thanks so much in advance!

your best bet for montreal would probably be craigslist or classifieds on the mcgill university website http://www.mcgill.ca/classified/
a lot of students sublet their places for the summer!~ hope that helps

and for toronto i would say check out the classified ads or student housing pages for the universities/colleges in toronto

Most definitely ! Although I just called this afternoon and they said they were behind schedule and that I needed to call back in a week to see if I get a room for the summer . Hopefully they'll be on schedule by next week because otherwise I'll need to apply to NYU housing. The $50 nonrefundable fee for the Brandon hopefully won't go to waste and I'll get accepted .

diorable I'm sure it'll be fine. I was so stressed when I had to apply for the Webster but it was a breeze. Back then I only knew about the Webster.

Are there any other similar places to the Webster and the Brandon in other cities, say Paris?

Don't know about Paris but I don't think there's anything considerable in London. I mean you might have people rent room's for the rez's from the Uni of London schools but I've never heard of people doing that. Plus they don't have that much rez space available. Most people I know, just look for short term lets off gumtree (though in London, this is mostly occupied by Aussies and Saffa's - good if your one of them, not so great if you're not) and other local websites.

Hey just to jump in and say that a lot of the London universities do open up their halls for the holidays. I stayed in some LSE accomodation for a week that was really reasonably priced.
