velony,
id say go with it and as u said u can always return it. not sure it will keep you warm in the cold winter days though

Regarding putting it in the wash, I have a two part question...
1. Would the color fade? I know there are special detergents for black, but they black clothes are never as black as they were before the first wash regardless.
2. Would it shrink? MY black leather RO is really thin glove leather, and has stretched a little since I have been wearing chunky sweaters under it, I wouldn't mind it shrinking a bit...

thanks Leyla/ anyone else who can answer my questions. I shamefully don't know anything about regular laundry, let alone leather laundry, so forgive my ignorance...

On mine, theres a slighty shiny coating on top of a suede like leather, it crackled and has a nice look to it. If anyone has the same I'd be afraid all of the coating would come off but I dont really know.

Does leather shrink a little if you dont wear it for a while?

^ yes, mine is the same as GG's and it does have a coating, this would really come off in wash and make it more subtle.

But my jacket has also stretched out I guess that is just the nature of the leather...I would not mind it shrinking a bit either!

But I am to scared to just putting it in the washing machine, so I will see if I can find a leather cleaner this weekend. :flower:

i havent received mine yet but will try it and let you all know. i will also ask their head office again. they recommended it on the non coated leather but said the washing is what makes it more unique...

Has anyone cleaned their Rick Owens leather jacket? I spilled some miso soup on my jacket this weekend, and I would like to have cleaned, but the leather has gone through a specific process to get that 'look' so I'm a bit concerned about giving it to anyone.
help?

I've had a few little mishaps with Balsamic vinegar and then tomato pasta sauce when wearing with my RO dust coloured jacket too. I haven't taken it to the dry cleaner but I did try washing the area with mild soap and warm water and it survived okay. Also I've tried corn starch for any fat marks which is also highly recommended. But they've been minor thankfully. I've also tried a gentle neutral colour leather cleaner for smooth nappa leather which hasn't been a problem either. I've only tackled the small stain area and I wouldn't recommend dunking the whole thing in water even if it's washed leather to begin with!

I am sure an experienced high quality leather cleaners would be able to work with your RO jacket. Why don't you ask the shop where you originally made your purchase to recommend a cleaner they use. (Browns/Harvey Nicks or Liberty might be helpful - if you purchased from NAP). I've got a recommended place in Paris if needs must but I know you're in London.

Leyla - re. 08 spring/summer buying - definitely recommend the purchase of the leather jacket staples (these are non-runway pieces which are re-interpretations and continuations of classic RO leather styles) in the classic colours - black, dust and dark shadow.

grill,

i did order the black and the darkshadow which are stunning!!! i ordered quite a few but i suppose i will order more each season :woot:
cant wait to actually receive them!

marc,
i promise thats what they swear by. in a way it makes sense, no?

Carpe Diem and Poell leathers are machine washable; you even have guidelines to do so in the instructions. My CDiem shirt can be thrown in the DRYER!! I'd think RO jackets would end up fine that way but I might be worried about the softer leathers he sometimes uses for S/S.

As an aside Alber Elbaz and Thom Browne machine wash their suits, something that is very apparent in the marred perfection of Lanvin's best menswear designs.

I'm too late for your store buys but I'm guessing your clientele is design aficionados, bourgeois artists, people who wish they were bourgeois artists and Asian tourists. I'd say the leather jackets are a must as they bring the people in, but the double-layer (my favourite) and regular shirts are probably the pieces that would sell the most. Especially since you’re based in Monaco, where the weather is often quite warm. To be honest I don’t think his expertise lies in tailored menswear so I would stay away from those as other labels do it better and have more exposure in that area. The boots and especially hi-tops are very popular in specific markets, where they sell out quite quickly, but if they aren’t in your area you’ll be stuck with 600 Euros running shoes. Colour choice is especially important as you can either go all black or present brown/rust/darkshadow pieces depending on your audience. L'éclaireur, Atelier and the Library all stock Poell but their buys are so different it feels like three distinct brands for clients that couldn't be more varied.

RO recently released a limited edition photo book that was sold at Barneys and will be available at Colette (might already be, I haven’t checked). It might be worth it to have a copy or two as store displays or for specific clients that are fans of the label.

fuuma,

you are excellent! lots of karma your way :winkiss:
i did place quite a good order but only ladies as i dond think i will have time for mens for a couple of seasons.. the ladies is massive with the pre/basics.... but i loved it.. i got some great basics like the leather jackets of course, ribbed racer tanks, cotton blend draped cardis (various fabulous kinds), chiffony skirts and long pants, etc in delicious colours such as milk/vanilla/flesh and of course black
the runway pieces were great but almost too heavy for my part of the world. the jackets were quite boxy and the fabrics too starched.. but i got some of the amazing striped pants, jackets and one style of the striped asymmetrical dresses.
the most amazing pair of cropped black washed WATERSNAKE pants (so soft anyone would fall in love) and the gilet in the same watersnake.. those are the most exclusive and most expensive pieces i got but totally worth it!!!
the big fishnet hooded cardi was great too so that had to be ordered as well :shifty:

ohh, i cant wait to post pics soon!!

as a sidenote, the accessories were really not that great. everyone in the massive showroom was wearing either black converse or the runway shoes which i didnt order. they are IMO truly hideous... but who knows, they might take off like those Balenciaga ankle boots

^ leyla, any more info on washing leather jackets?? I can;t get my gin and tonic stain out by just a damp cloth! lol :)

On my tag inside my jacket (it took a while to find it!)
it says DO NOT WATER WASH... so I don't think I will be doing that.

marc and pucci,
i havent gotten in touch with them and possibly wont until my merchandise arrives for SS08. will let you know as soon as i know if noone gets the info reconfirmed.
i know the tags say that but i can assure you all once more that he (RO sales director) was swearing by it :)
on a side note i have a chloe bomber jacket in a beige and its been through alot and got quite a few stains (cream, etc). as leather breathes it always blended in the actual leather and is not visible anymore. marcj, do you have a picture of that stain?
:flower:

RO often uses the same tags even when it doesn't make sense though (references to distressing on non-distressed garments and such). Really depends on how you like your stuff, I like my sportcoats crumpled so I tend to beat them up more than someone who'se into the pristine look. BTW if you want to spot wash just get some leather cleaner/conditionner used for dress shoes, like the one sold by Allend edmonds.

leyla we do appreciate all info you could get... :flower:

Fuuma I prefer my Rick Owen's jacket to not change as it really is perfect the way it is now.. I wore it out after not wearing it for a while, and the leather had really changed... to this amazing worn-in look.. I don't really know how that happened. So it's perfect now.

I really feel like getting another jacket... maybe in the new season...^_^

^Yes, i would definitely say so ...
It's just the different styling, wrapped or draped, that might be confusing,
but if you check the back view it has the same detailing ...

So go for it ... it's a beautiful piece!

Thanks Multitudes - I just oredered it (black)! the smallest size was a 4 though..Usually I'm a 0/2...but I'VE never bought rick owens before. eek - Wish me luck!!!!

Don't worry, RO tends to run a little small and also the size does not really matter in the wrap tops imo.
I'm pretty sure you are going to love it. I think RO is addictive.

Thanks Velony for the heads up! Im really really REALLY curious about the piece. I love how it's worn on th egreen one but I don't know if I can emulate it - looks so complicated haha. Those two versions (black and green) look like completely different shirts!

Speaking of, does anyone know which season this was from: http://www.yoox.com/item/YOOX/RICK+O...s/searchResult

I just went to style.com and checked the last 3 Fall seasons and coudln't find it...any help is MUCH appreciated.
