A friend sent me this article (from this month actually) about Ruslana's death and thought maybe you want to read it, idk, it's quite long and the writer created this crazy story about her and interviewed this girl Luba, a "friend" of Ruslana, and there's something curious, he talks about Erik's work (image below) and refers to a video that for a while now have been on maisondesprit.com though it doesn't work really. Well, I'll post some parts.

Written by Peter Pomerantsev, a "nonfiction writer."

The Lost Girl

Why did a supermodel at the top of her game—hauntingly beautiful and only 20—kill herself in 2008? A filmmaker describes his three-year quest for clues, and answers.

...

In Moscow, I seek out Luba, Ruslana’s friend and colleague, who was close to her in Moscow around that time. Luba’s flat is stuffed with hundreds of cuddly toys. They’re nothing like their images on paper, these girls. They’re small, scared, brittle. When the camera zooms tight, you notice their wounded eyes, both searching for guidance and mistrustful. Luba remembers Ruslana’s lover well: “He’s gorgeous. Girls drop at his feet. He’s been with so many of my friends. All of them perfect.” Friends, more experienced girls like Luba, warned Ruslana not to fall in love. But she was certain this was the real thing. She wanted marriage, children, a steady home. “That was the thing about Ruslana—there was something childish about her. She believed.”

...

June 27, 2008. One day before her death, Ruslana starred in a photo shoot on a roof in midtown New York. A weird day: first rain, then sun so hot the camera burns. The photographer’s name is Erik Heck. He shows me grainy 8mm video of Ruslana’s last day. The Ruslana we see in this shoot is completely different from her previous work. She’s a grown woman, not a fairy-tale princess. For the first time I catch a glimpse of the real person. “She’d always been told to play different roles, to be a bubbly teenager. What I saw in her was more than that, a timeless beauty,” Heck says. “I shot her when she wasn’t watching, she had no time to pose. That’s when you get the best work. She was free.”

^I tried to play that video too, but it doesn't work!

I read that whole article. I remember one of her lasts shoots..with her hands in front of her face etc. she looked skinny. I remember that I decided not to check her thread for a while because I felt something was going on with her. How strange is that! Days later she was found dead, I remember I heard it from a family member and couldn't believe it!
Anyway I still miss her...I knew her of the Nina Ricci ad. I think it's a gorgeous ad and video.

It's almost unbelievable what's written in that article, but you don't know a person, I just wished she was happy in her life...

Ruslana Involved With Dangerous Cult

Was tragic supermodel, 20, who threw herself from her ninth floor New York apartment part of a sinister cult?

The suicide of Ruslana Korshunova almost three years ago stunned the world. A beautiful, seemingly happy supermodel, at the peak of her career, the 20-year-old had everything to live for.

But on June 28 2008, the young beauty tragically leapt to her death from a building site adjacent to her 9th floor New York apartment.
She had no history of depression, and there was no trace of alcohol or drugs in her body. In short, the reasons that she took her own life remain a mystery.

Now a filmmaker claims that many clues point to a controversial organisation known as Rose of the World.

Suicide: Supermodel Ruslana Korshunova, 20, leapt to her death from a building site adjacent to her 9th floor New York apartment on June 28 2008

In his research for a documentary into the Kazakhstan-born model's suicide, Peter Pomerantsev found many references to the Moscow-based group, which describes itself as 'training for personality development'.
Writing about his experiences in Newsweek, he told how he discovered that a close friend of Ruslana, Anastasia Drozdova, also committed suicide, in 2009 in Kiev, under similar circumstances.

Like Ruslana, Anastasia was a budding model - and also ended her life by jumping from a block of flats. Anastasia's mother, Olga, told Pomerantsev: 'I searched her room for clues. I found these papers from somewhere called Rose of the World. 'Strange words: "Anastasia, your lullaby is winter's end. You're on your way."

'What could they mean? What is "Rose of the World"? I know she went there with Ruslana.'

'Ruslana became aggressive, for the first time ever swore and cursed. She lost weight'

The filmmaker, who acquired hidden camera footage and recordings of seminars at Rose of the Worlds, reveals that the group's philosophy is based on a discipline called Lifespring, which, during the Eighties, was the subject of so many lawsuits, it was forced to shut down its U.S. operation.
Members, he explains, are asked to speak of their worst experiences, and each in turn relates horrific stories of r*pe and abusive parents.
Pomerantsev tells how members of 'The Rose' remember Ruslana as an 'enthusiastic speaker'.

She is said to have discussed her father's death and her failed romance.
Meanwhile, the article reports, friends of the two models noticed changes in their behaviour.

'Anastasia would start rows, then burst into tears,' it reads. 'She missed castings, became reclusive. Ruslana became aggressive, for the first time ever swore and cursed. Both [she and Anastasia] lost weight.'

Star in the making: Ruslana was most famous for appearing in the advertisement for Nina Ricci's signature fragrance

Rose of the World assistant Volodya told Pomerantsev that the changes in Ruslana's behaviour were 'normal'.

He quotes her saying: 'Ruslana had what we call a "rollback". She felt a little strange. You'd find her wandering round town, unsure what she was doing there. 'Maybe she'd cry at night. But she couldn't have killed herself. We cured her of any problems she might have.
And Anastasia? She was messed up already. We tried to help her, we really tried. But she refused transformation. Blame modelling, maybe drugs, not us.'

Pomerantsev's account of footage from The Rose is illuminating. He writes: 'When you enter The Rose, there is darkness and shouting, everything is designed to stun the conscious mind, suspend critical thought.'

He describes a 'life trainer' who 'talks so fast you can't help but be confused, the microphone set at a level your head starts hurting.'

Tragedy: The Khazakstan-born beauty leapt to her death from the scaffolding next to her apartment in New York's Financial District

But Ruslana and Anastasia, it appears, found something of a refuge in The Rose and signed up for three-day 'training' courses that cost almost $1,000 each. Pomerantsev reports that Ruslana spent three months attending sessions at The Rose before returning to New York.
She wrote at the time, just a few months before her death: 'I'm so lost, will I ever find myself.'

Of course there could be many other reasons for Ruslana's suicide. Former model and psychologist Elena Obukhova believes the fashion industry is to blame. And in his living years, sociologist Emile Durkheim opined that young women from former Soviet republics are especially vulnerable because, he claimed, parents have no traditions or value systems to pass onto their children. It is also no secret that Ruslana struggled with the break-up of her tycoon boyfriend.

Her friend Luba told Pomerantsev: 'He's gorgeous. Girls drop at his feet. He's been with so many of my friends. All of them perfect.'

When the relationship ended, Luba continues, 'she couldn't understand. Suddenly she was one of a thousand girls. One of a million. A no one.'
Ruslana's social network page, on which she posted many poetic missives, was one of the ways she expressed her sorrow. Her internet postings reflect an inner torment, with admissions that she was 'hurt' and 'lost'.
In one, she tellingly wrote: 'My dream is to fly. Oh, my rainbow it is too high.'

'8.5 meters? That's not a fall. That's a leap. That's almost flight. She didn't stand on the ledge and take a step off. She took a run and soared'

And the suggestion of flight is also echoed by Pomerantsev, who noted that her body was found 8.5 metres from the building from which she fell.
'8.5 meters? That's not a fall. That's a leap,' he wrote. 'That's almost flight. The supermodel didn't stand on the ledge and take a step off. The supermodel took a run and soared.'

Ruslana was most famous for starring in a campaign for Nina Ricci's house fragrance, and graced the cover of numerous magazines including French Elle and Russian Vogue. She also featured in ads for DKNY, Vera Wang and Christian Dior among others and was hailed as 'the next big thing' in a profile in Vogue.

Friends refused to believe it was suicide. 'There's no way she would have killed herself,' said friend Kira Titeneva, shortly after Ruslana died. 'She loved life so much. 'She was my best friend. I talked to her Friday night and we were talking all the gossip.' She added: 'She was like an angel. She was just working, working, working.'

^ I didn't know that 6 out of 7 countries with female suicides are in the former soviet bloc. Beauty is a gift why such tragedy considering there are so many beautiful girls in those countries.

twnv you are amazing!! thanks for that video

Haha thanks girl, you are most welcome! I was totally hyper that it worked and I still am!
Thanks for the karma, I love that hihi, thanks! I see my video has been viewed only 69 times, or is that a lot after 1 day I don't know. I like to see it being viewed a lot of times haha!

You know what bothers me the most, not necessary these 'new' articles or the mystery behind it. It's a called 'death' video of Ruslana at youtube. I never saw it and will never see it. Did anyone else see this video? I would like to see it being removed from youtube (or from google results). I think it's disrespectful for showing someone's death. Anyone else agrees? We need to sign a petition to get it removed lol, but I mean it, I don't think it's good. It might have a huge impact on someone who didn't exptect to see it. I know there is a lot of bloody stuff out there at youtube but I wish there was a limit in what is ok to upload.

Again, you are all most welcome for uploading:) glad all of you enjoy it!
It's remarkable how 'late' this came out, or it was already out and we never knew.

One more question: I see this video I uploaded hasn't been posted at bellazon. Does any member of this thread have an account at bellazon? If so, can anyone post it there and credit my youtube account and the others I credited? Bellazon is a great source and I would love it if they can see/find the video as well!

tbh I think the media is exaggerating her "top of the modelling world" , title.....

Yeah I can see why you are saying that. You mean she didn't do many campaigns? I do think she was a topmodel in a way cause she was very famous. But I think Natalia Vodianova for example is a true top model and I don't think that Ruslana was that... so I do agree with you!

By the way forget my question to put it out there at bellazon, because they already know!

I am so glad this thread is a little bit more alive now:)

At bellazon they are talking about some bridal video from David or something. Anyone else know more about this brand?
'by the way here in the states the last comericial I saw with her and it ran into 2009 was an tv commerical for the comapny "davids bridal"'
Quote from hope1 from bellazon.com.

Can we just leave Ruslana alone now
lets bury this and put this to rest, I'm she would like that too

regarding if she is a supermodel or not as how the article says
They can put anything they like as long as we give our respects too

^sorry, you're right.. it's no need to discuss it anymore cause it doesn't matter!

And don't get me wrong, but I had and still have great respect for her.
