RIP Virgil Abloh - 1980-2021

Just found out, absolutely crazy. Kanye just named dropped him all over his recent drink champs interview too. I wonder if even he was aware of his condition?

Wow. This is incredibly shocking news. I couldn’t actually believe I was reading that correctly. I was not a fan of his work and I find this terribly sad for his wife and children.

I am shocked because he did not look sick or unwell. It reminds me of when Chadwick Boseman kept his diagnosis private. I am sorry he suffered with cancer and tried to survive while working.

RIP Virgil and sending love to his family and close ones.

me too, had to re-read the name of the user posting it (aracic, so.. legit/not a troll). I was not a fan of his work/public personality either but it goes without saying that he accomplished a lot for his age and it's sad that he did try several treatments to overcome this.. must be incredibly frustrating and devastating to reach one of the hardest places in terms of profession but not being able to get your body to.. cooperate. RIP.

It’s sad. He was so young and while I wasn’t a fan of his work, he is a man who had an impact on fashion and culture and will be remember as a pioneer for a generation.

I’ve heard rumors last year, after his appearance at one of his show, but he was very private about his condition.
My heart goes to his family, colleagues, friends and to a whole generation that feel like they have lost one of their heroes.

That's why I think everything he has been doing since 2019, was to leave a mark, to have a legacy. Because he was already established back then. Which if it was the case, I would think it a bit odd because I'd much rather focus on one specific angle and 'live', than run LV, Off White, the DJing, the architecture initiatives, Ikea etc. That was a lot. And remember at some stage he showed visible signs of fatigue which seemed suspicious at the time. But I suppose we all have different yardsticks of what equates to success or legacy.

This is so sad:( He was never my favorite designer and I have even talked so much sh*t about his work but really what a loss! He had such a huge cultural impact and represented so much more. And this is even a bigger loss for the black community.

Honestly, he kinda looked unwell. He had lost weight and looked like he aged a lot in such a short period. He even missed his show due to an undisclosed medical reason if I remember it correctly.

Wow. He truly lived the “You Only Live Once” mantra through all his work. May he rest in peace.

Truly shocking. I wasn't a fan of his work either, but it's undeniable that his impact on fashion was massive and changed the industry. May he rest in peace.

okay, so I guess this is the right thread to post my R.I.P. wishes, not a fan of his work as many of you aren't either, but really sad news nevertheless.

I was never a fan of his work, but this is such shocking news, because he was such a young man.
You just never know what private battles people are struggling with. May he rest in peace.
