It's funny, but I've been talking about River a lot lately, and everyone I've spoken to, from ages 20 to 60 ( honestly!), have all voiced such a feeling of tragedy and loss over Rivers death. They didn't all really know a ton about him, but they all have agreed that he was a tremendous actor and seemed to be a good person, despite how he died which IMO might make some people take a negative stance towards him. But no, I've only heard fond words. I think that's unusual.

Actually, when he died, the media circus was just as bad as that of Heath Ledger's. The only difference is that the internet didn't have such a strong threshold yet, so it wasn't as in-your-face. You're right though, people of all ages and backgrounds respond to River, he was truly special. I've never outgrown my love for him. At every stage in my life, his performances and interviews reveal new layers and nuances.

Btw, I have some good bush/sex-related quotes, but I'm not sure they're TFS appropriate!

Yes, that's a good one. Even though he spoke so light-heartedly about everything, you could always tell there was some serious underlying pain. Rio's Attic (www.river-phoenix.org) is a very comprehensive site, lots of good quotes by or about him to be found there. Also most of his interviews are worth reading, he was very open, funny, and inquisitive.

Just a few little warnings:

1. Do not post pictures from ellensplayground here. I'm sure you're all talented enough that you can read, but it doesn't harm for me to mention it again in case anyone has missed the messages on page. The site does have an amazing photo collection though, so really do visit.

2. The journey that this site takes you on with it's full chronology of photos and accompaning quotes is both moving and saddening. I'll admit, I had a little sob over some of it ( mostly in the Oct. 31st, 1993 section). So, if you're sensitive and prefer to hail River's life and not death, I recommend you skim over some of the death related quotes!
