Feel free to move this thread - was not sure where to put it. Saw this article recently on a collaboration of the cartoonist Robert Crumb and Stella McCartney:

From Vogue.co.uk:

ROBERT CRUMB may have provided the cartoons for Stella McCartney's latest run of customised T-shirts, but he is determinedly not into fashion. "The whole thing just seems freaky to me," the 61-year-old cartoonist told WWD. "I just find it repulsive – the whole sensibility. I find ordinary women on the street more interesting. All those bony women give me the creeps. They just look like coat hangers."

Would anyone have any more info...or better yet, some pictures? I've had a dig through the website but to no avail  I would be really interested to see this! I just hope its not a load of student stoner t-shirts! See example...

Cool, I like Robert Crumb and I've always wished Stella McCartney would go a little more "underground" and out of the ordinary. I found this article, it repeats some of the things in the first article but gives a little more info.

Cartoonist Robert Crumb is the antifashionista. He was the guest of honor at a party Tuesday at the Stella McCartney store, but spent most of the night tucked away in a corner taking in the Big Band tunes. Unimpressed by the hipsters checking out his cartoon for a customized $175 McCartney T-shirt, Crumb turned his attention to Vince Giordano’s Nighthawks. The music, after all, was his call. Crumb, 61, has no urge to extend his run in the designer world. “I’m not interested in fashion; I think it’s all silly,” he said. “The whole thing just seems freaky to me….I look at these magazines like Vogue and Elle and I feel nothing but disgust. I just find it repulsive — the whole sensibility. I find ordinary women on the street more interesting. All those bony women give me the creeps. They just look like coat hangers.” Maybe the cartoonish party invitation should have been a tip-off. A balloon above Crumb’s name read “I’M NOT HERE TO BE POLITE!”

Yeah i agree on the weird factor....would be interesting to see the ts.

There is a retrospective of his work on at whitechapel in london at the moment. I spent hours in there the other week. I love how brutally honest he is.

Wow, fascinating news.. Can't wait to see what this brings. to R.Crumb..

His quote about finding models repulsive is a little amusing though -- I know too many people who page through my R Crumb books and just snigger or goggle at the "ugly" pictures. To each, apparently. <g>

A lot of people don't seem to get his work. I know one of my friend's saw some of his drawings and thought they were incredibly offensive (which is understandable!)

Mixed feelings about this.
This collaboration doesn't seem to have a real POINT, and I don't see much coming out of it except for a high-priced snug-fitting T-shirt with some of Crumb's drawings on it.
I like Crumb's cartoons, but it feels like this collaboration is merely a product of all the attention he's been getting lately. A part of me is instinctively appalled at the possibility of Crumb being exploited, marketed. I know that is silly, because he obviously agreed to it, but it calls to mind the movie American Splendor. Harvey Pekar, a real person and creator of/writer for the comic book series American Splendor, was invited onto the David Letterman Show repeatedly just so that he could be laughed at, marveled at, basically exploited; and he knew that, but he still agreed to go on. Anyway...this wasn't very coherent, but just putting my thoughts out there

Well it can't be more exploited than 'keep on truckin' !

i agree with you cerfas...i think it is a very strange collaboration indeed?!? i mean his illustrations are fantastic but i dont know if i would want to buy my girlfriend a stella t with crumbs art on it....WTF??? Stella would have payed a damn large sum of money for his artwork which would have been hard to refuse as well. Seems kinda strange that crumb agreed to it though...seems like the last thing that he would do...dont you think? a very very random collab. imo

letterman is the one that should be laughed at...he is one arrogant fool... i read an interview with Beck who mentioned that he saw an episode with letterman where Crispin Glover (?) came on the show and was taking kicks at letterman and saying how strong he was. They then cut to an add apparently and Glover was gone after the add!....lol...i wish i had seen the look on letterman's face! sorry to fo off topic but you reminded me of the article.
