I have to say, as much as the clothes make me swoon, the best part of the Rococo era is the hair. I  :heart: the pouf more than life itself. Someone needs to figure out a way to bring birdcages in hair back into fashion.

In Japan, Himegyaru is the new trend and the emphasis is based on a lot on the Rococo era, especially the hair!

This is a video where they take one of the japanese TV hosts and turn into a himegyaru and her hair is HUGE!!

Another video teaching you how to do the hair. To style, its similar to Amy Winehouses beehive hair by using a stuffed hairnet to create a huge volume!

LOVE those girls hair!
I've always wanted to try doing the hairdo in that last video but I have yet to find a store here that sells fake hair I can buy to make myself a rat.

^ You can always try stuffing with something else since its going to get covered anyway... but I've never tried it myself since my hair is not long enough :(

I absolutely loved Kristen Dunst's hair in Marie Antoinette

I love these styles also!! Howeer, Himegyaru do not consider themselves lolita, as lolita is more childlike and "stumpy" while himegyaru is like a teenage princess! here is another video:

Fun; I found the fourth photo in post #8 on someone's flickr awhile ago (while browsing) and I didn't realize it was part of this himegyaru style. Now it all fits together.

will these hair style look good on dark hair too?
or all the detail will be lost?

^ Is this for your own purposes? You should try it and let us know, if so :P

^ By dark do you mean black? Then yes.. it might be hard to see the details... but I think dark brown is the darkest you can go. Although, you'll never know unless you try

I'm growing out my hair also, can't wait till its long enough to try out these hairstyles! Including the one in the Marie-Antoinette movie!

soo.... much.... pink....

haha, if i was short and cute and had hair for miles, i'd totally rock this

Beyond cute. I would worry that people just thought that I was being a bit80s.

While I like the idea of rococo inspired hairstyles, I think the examples in this thread look too exaggerated - the models are short, and then they have this huuge hairdo.. it's more comical than glamorous, it reminds me of country singers.. or wavy haired troll dolls. sorry. if youre doing the himegyaru thing then ok, but to incorporate it into a normal everyday outfit, a toned down version would be better imo.

i think its more of a japanese pop culture thing. its quite interesting how many different genres of style there are in japan.
