A small throw-away item in the New York Daily News on Monday is panning out to have some validity.

Us Weekly is reporting that Ryan Gosling and girlfriend Rachel McAdams are "taking a break."

McAdams' rep call the story "completely false."

However, friends of the couple are saying that they are spending some time apart.

"[Rachel] is taking it really hard because Ryan is everything to her," says a source.

Gosling is said to want to focus on his career and enjoy his moment as an "it" boy.

"Ryan was in love with her, but it didn't work out because of their conflicting work schedules," says another source. "They're both miserable. Hopefully they'll get back together soon."
