Ryan Gosling & Sean Penn in Gangster Squad?

According to Deadling Ryan is offered a role in “Gangster Squad“, the Will Beall-scripted crime drama that will be directed by Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer and they are trying to get Sean Penn involved in the project as well.

Warner Bros is going to the mattresses on mobster movies. The studio has given the green light to Gangster Squad, the Will Beall-scripted crime drama that will be directed by Zombieland helmer Ruben Fleischer. The linchpin of the film is Los Angeles mobster Mickey Cohen, and the studio is formally offering the role to Sean Penn.

Ryan Gosling is getting the offer to play one of two cops who try to bring him down. Warner Bros has been sweet on Penn for some time for a role that could be as memorable a gangster turn as when Robert De Niro played Al Capone in The Untouchables.

The drama, based on a series of articles by Paul Lieberman, is the fact-based tale of the crime fighting exploits of a squad of elite Los Angeles officers in the 1940s charged with stopping him and other mobsters. Screenwriter Beall is a former South Central Los Angeles cop who wrote the novel L.A. Rex. Dan Lin and Kevin McCormick are producing.

Filming Ides of March in Detroit Continues

Ryan was seen in Detroit filming scenes for “The Ides of March” Tuesday (April 5). We added the first batch of that day in our gallery. As you know the film co-stars and is directed by George Clooney. Ryan’s co-star Rachel Evan Wood was also seen on set.

Yesterday was the official trailer premiere for “Crazy, Stupid, Love“, be sure to watch the trailer if you haven’t.

Those shirtless screencaps ALONE!:p..makes me want to see that movie...He looks Amazing

I second that
I'm glad his getting more and more new projects, he deserves it.

he parted his ways with the biz for awhile there, but now seems getting various themed projects which is great since he's very talented. glad he's getting the recognition.

Well I'm pretty sure he's already established himself as an actor, he's already been nominated for an Oscar...
but it is nice to see him getting such a variety of projects now.
I think Ryan is officially apart of the new A-list and that's very refreshing.

i meant recognition as in being put faith in him when it comes to his diversity and not the usual serious killer/druggie/creepy roles he has been playing earlier in his career (then went on a break when it comes to work and then got into music) either by his choice or by the producers. Oscar nom puts you in the spotlight for only so long so you book other projects (and if you have a good campaign) and Ryan, IMO, choose not to. that could be seen resulting in - in my becoming a fan of his one of the last things i've learned about him is him being nominated for Half Nelson for Academy Award.

i don't think he's an A-lister yet (don't get me wrong, for my standards he def is - from talent to work to interesting public figure), but i think he'll become one soon enough with the first boxoffice win to get the general consensus and working with Clooney won't damage that road of his either.

I am so happy that Drive will be at Cannes! We'll have some great RC for sure. I think he is an A-list now and if he isn't yet at least he dresses like one :p (can't believe he wasn't nominated for Blue Valentine at the Oscar )

Btw Crazy, Stupid Love looks Epic. I think some of us will die during some scenes! The "it's like you are photoshopped" is indeed a classic. Wonder how hard he worked to have that chest/abs!
Some oldies from a photoshoot. Credit RGfan. I hope they weren't posted!
