S/S 06 Catwalk Trends

this is where we are bringing in and discussing the general mood/trends from the catwalk season.
as the shows continue throughout the following week trends brought and discussed here will eventually find their way as separet topics for discussion, we are not in any particular hurry for jumping on conclusions or aphorisms on what ss06 will look like while still in the start of the London shows..

in general, i'd say we'd better be patient -and a little bit reserved- until the shows are officially over..
something that may seem hot out of the NY catwalks may turn out weak ..by the first week of October the collections are over few weeks later on

thanks all for bringing in your trend observations as the shows continue

Folkloric continues, S/S 06

I noticed some nice examples of folkloric work on the spring runways, perhaps most notably at PHI ...

First down the runway ...

need to wait and see if it blows up to a 'real' trend.. hence for the time being, this topic will be merged with the 'general' ss06 threadspotting thread

this might sound sort of stupid but i was just wondering how come all designers or most come out wiht the same trends at the same time..do u know wat i mean? like lets say they 'parachute pants' is it just a coincidence that designers are making them at the same time? who makes and sets trends?

not stupid at all pout, see usually major influences start through trend forecast agencies, known also as trend offices or bureaux du style etc etc..

if you are interested, give it a try with tFS search to find threads discussing the trend forecast topic

plus: welcome to tFS :flower:

I've noticed a lot of color you might be able to call marigold, or maybe something better...I'm sure there's a better name for this color but I can;t think of it. Kind of like yellow with a splash of gold or brown and gray thrown in.

looks like "maize" to me

This colour "maize" or this yellow doesnt seem to fit in with any other palette, it seems to be standing on its own for the moment. Not too sure about it really..

i call it ...Marni yellow :D
and there is a lot of it around for next season ;)

has anyone said shorts yet?...
SHORTS!!...

they are everywhere in every length...*sigh*...

much to my dismay......
seems they are here to stay....

mmmmmnn. where i am shorts are everywhere !
it's getting almost epidemic . .
sad . . b/c i love them + now they're become a 'trend' . .
which as you say is set to carry through to s/s06 .

This might be getting slightly off-topic, but I really need to know. Call me clueless but...I live in a horrible suburban area where people could care less about fashion, and every year since I can remember everyone wears shorts...all spring and summer long...it doesn't matter if you're 2 years old or 80, you wear shorts. And you see them in all lengths. So it comes as a surprise to me to see people calling shorts a "trend", and chanel, you said you're getting sick of seeing them because people everywhere are wearing them. What do people in your area usually wear in the spring or summer? How about everyone else? I would never think to call shorts a trend, just because they've been everywhere for as long as I can remember. I guess this is just a horrible suburban area thing? Or am I missing something?

it's about HOW you wear them and in what context they have become acceptable...

'shorts at the beach'...is not a trend...just 'normal'

but...
'shorts and high heels or boots at a club'...
that is a TREND .... ;)

i agree chanel...
imo...this is def a trend that has come from the streets....
a lot of these looks are things that i have seen many fashion forward girls in my city wearing for a full season already...

and so it goes.... :innocent:

General Overview of all S/S 06 Trends..

My school is having a fashion runway show next spring in April, it is our 25th annual (silver) show and we need to come up with some themes for it.. so basically, I am trying to group trends together and come up with some sort of show title.. if you have any ideas that would be awesome.. you can give a title and a little reasoning behind it or pictures and what not..

What I need in the end.. are titles/themes/reasoning behind it/images/music choices/props etc

some of my ideas after looking through the threads..
i am bad at coming up with names..I don't even know if these would work. Last year is was pretty plain but worked, 'Runway 24'

Minimalist
Simplicity
Ruffles & Tiers
Tea Party or Garden Party
Glitz or Silver Glitz

some people were talking about showing fashion from the past 25 years, any ideas on key things we should show during that scene? or if we make it into a theme

thank you so much!
