I love Drew Barrymore & have been a fan for almost 23 years.
I think part of Drew's allure is that she is a chameleon & is
constantly chaging her style...from hair color to clothes.
She's also not the typical skinny beauty...being rather short
& [until more recently] always weighing more than the average
actress. She embraces her quirks & her humanness & I think
that very much appeals to companies that are looking for
someone relateable. I think real women CAN relate to Drew
& that's why she has been featured in 4 campaigns...
Guess, Miu Miu, Lancome & now Missoni.
Of course Drew wasn't the first celebrity to appear in ads,
but she was one of the first to do it in style & in a BIG way.
When she became the face of Guess in 1993 it shocked a
lot of people & it also started a new trend of celebs posing
for brands/fashion etc. But that was 13 years ago...obviously
celebrities posing isn't a passing fad & isn't going to go away
any time soon. I think that if someone sees an actress they
love in a new campaign they are probably going to think it's
great, while maybe if it's an actress they hate they'll say they
think celebs posing is stupid :/
I think the Missoni ads are gorgeous. While yes, I am partial
to Drew, I really love the colors & the poses in which Drew
was shot. Drew isn't going to pose like a model...because
she isn't a model & I for one find that VERY appealing. I
don't need to see an emaciated model striking an uncomfortable
yet beautiful pose...I'd rather see a real woman with real
curves being shot in a more natural way.
Just my 2 cents
