Thank you so much for the H&M update ^_^and

btw, Ralph Lauren is Valentina again ( as usual ) I thought it was Anna Selezneva ?

HOW does Valentina get those RL campaigns year after year after year?!?!?

i mean, she's gorgeous and everything, but she's entirely irrelevant as a model. she does nothing except those RL ads and hasn't done for years. and it's not like she's a famous model. i don't understand how come they keep with the same formula over and over again. it must sell. that' the only explanation.

I have a question. Last season there were "Ralph Lauren Collection" ads with Valentina, and then a few "Ralph Lauren" ads popped up with Anna S. So which one is the main line?

Being a Ralph Lauren contract model is one of the biggie contracts a la Victoria's Secret, Estee Lauder, Lancome and Calvin Klein, they just don't seem to promote it as much as the other brands mentioned. Not to sound snarky or anything, but referring to her as irrelevant is like referring to Hilary Rhoda or Doutzen Kroes as irrelevant models because of their decreased presence after they signed their contracts. She still does a little bit of runway (I think) and editorial work, I may be wrong about this but when she crops up in a non-Ralph Lauren situation, it tends to be Russian / Eastern European publications.

Having said all that, I do think that it is not wise for models to curtail their activities when they sign a big contract and should be somewhat visible in print and on the runways, provided that they are not violating the terms of their contract.

ETA:
Although I have wondered if in Ralph Lauren's case, with their main face if they don't want her to be known as anything other than the Ralph Lauren model and as such pays her well enough to not pursue other stuff, but I do think that they can still do some editorials and runway. My thing is that it is a Catch 22 for a model, because it is a big bucks contract but when the contract ends, and if she wants to continue modeling, she has to, perhaps not start at square one, but start at square three or four with her modeling career. Hopefully they is a good financial planners.

Isn't Tao Okamoto exclusive to RL ??

DK did many other things, runway and big adds before VS and goes commercial cuase she even herself said she was to 'big' for runway etc.. So I can see his point about this model.
But a RL contract is as big as a CKcontract? Really

Ah well.. I want to see CK.

^ um Doutzen isn't the only one who did runway and ads before she went commercial. Hilary Rhoda did too (agee mentioned her anyway) and I don't know why people keep forgetting that Valentina Zelyaeva did runway and did it well - she walked for labels such as Balenciaga, Balmain, Bottega Veneta, Fendi, Galliano, Stella McCartney, Valentino etc.

I think Valentina may have like an NY exclusive for Ralph (as far as runway goes) - because she did Givenchy F/W 09 (also exclusive there) although maybe that was with special permission or something. Could be she just doesn't think it's worth it to do runway, runway work related travel etc. costs way more than you earn and if she's getting enough money from RL it's just not worth the hassle for her. I think the exclusive is only runway because I do remember she had an US Elle editorial last year or something and the occasional editorial in some European mags.

Sorry if I was unclear, the point I was addressing was the other poster's comment about how does Valentina keep getting the RL campaign because she is so "irrelevant," irrelevant being defined as her lack of presence on the fashion scene, when in fact it is the RL contract, and specifically the exclusivity of it, that decreased (or never really established) her presence and hence made her "irrelevant." My point in bringing up Hilary and Doutzen is because it is like saying how do they keep getting Estee Lauder and Victoria's Secret bookings, when most of what they do is Estee Lauder and Victoria's Secret, when in fact, for various reasons, it was getting the contract that decreased their presence. Yeah, yeah I know they do more stuff than Valentina, but I suspect that RL may be stricter when it comes to what their contract models can do.

Oh yes I should have written for example :) But I know DK work better so I thought with one example I could also make my point haha.
Ah well, moving on :flower:.
