Saint Laurent F/W 2021.22 Paris

I seem to be on my own here but this lookbook just creeps me out. There's just something off about the casting, the clothes and the whole mood. I'm all for sexy and provocative but this is neither, and its definitely not Saint Laurent- those were strong women in charge of their sexuality.

I can't help but appreciate Anthony's strong vision for YSL.These women are super skinny and so unashamedly sexy. They know they look hot and the over the top styling here makes it all the more fun. I love it.

I find the Chanel references egregious. Inspiration is one thing, this is clearly another. And to do so at YSL, a brand that should be on equal footing as Chanel makes it worst.

Unless this Anthony’s audition for Virgine’s job.....

I get that he wants to be confrontational and controversial with the whole young teen— even underage and oversexed bad taste looks: It's a great cast and if the shots pretended to make an effort with some solid photography/art direction, the cast would be elevated to CK by Meisel worthy provocation. And I’d be all for that if most of the pieces weren’t so painfully basic and just outright cheap-looking: No label and no overpriced tags is going to make metallic pastel denim minis and matching bodysuits look anything but outright dime-a-dozen cheap like it’s all from late-2000 American Apparel doing vintagewear. And as a collection, it just doesn’t build from one look to the next and to a satisfying finale: It’s all just so aimless and mismatched meandering. It's too bad, because a handful of strong looks-- that had he bothered to build upon and evolve from, would have lead to a strong and fresh, newish direction for the brand: sl*tty teens in bourgeois gaudiness of the world proudly unite.

everything I was thinking but couldn’t put into words. Imagine any woman over 24 in these clothes.. also, this is neither confrontational nor controversial, it’s just tone deaf

I cannot make up my mind as whether you’re being ironic or not. Lol
Haha, I apologize. My grammar and diction was horrible in that sentence. To clarify: I am being serious--I enjoyed this collection a lot. It feels right for 2021-22 based on styles I've seen become popular among girls my age (that mix between gothic, which can be partly accredited to the casting, and very feminine/sweet styles). I understand the critiques some people are expressing though.

I don’t hate the collection. The jewelry is wonderful! It is about time the brand embrace its more bold jewelry history from Loulou de la Falaise. I like some of the jackets. They are not magnificent but it’s better than all black. Yes Yves Saint Laurent did the smoking suit and a lot of black but he did a great deal more.
I really wish the brand would move back to the over the top and colorful collections inspired by the world of Art. Unfortunately the world just wants to either look homeless in neutral colored hoodies or like prostitutes in skimpy leather shorts.
Anyways, it’s not bad, it’s not great but it’s heading hopefully in a better direction. Fingers crossed for better direction or a time machine to plant me back in the 20th Century.

^^
Ahaha!
While Chanel makes the most beautiful jackets, the dose of energy is much stronger at YSL...Add to that the fact that YSL is cheaper...

The only thing Chanel has above all is the status symbol. You could look cute in your Chanel by YSL jacket but it will never resonate as the OG...

But Bruno, if you want Chanel to be back in the fashion conversation again, you know what you needs to do. The fact that you still have to justify Virginie’s presence is telling...

^So Bruno has no problem with all the Giambattistas, Oliviers and Philipps trying to recreate Chanel icons yet it's Vaccarello who caught his attention? That's interesting, because out of all those people, it's Anthony who made the nods to the Chanel jacket and other visual codes feel right.

Coming back to this YSL collection, it's a bit weird and I really don't like the styling. It's horribly one-note and too literal. That's a shame, because the separates are really strong and sexy.

Snatch Hedi from LVMH . Can't wait for the melt down.

Why go for Anthony when they can afford the original source. I find it kinda funny when Hedi started send out Chanel jackets inspired, a few season later Anthony presented us this

Oh No! Not Hedi.... Please. I would rather have them to keep Virginie..

Snatch Nicolas from LVMH...And now we are talking! The Chanel jackets he did at Balenciaga were good too...

I love it. I love the pieces, the styling, the coolness, sexyness and just the overall feeling of the collection.. Its young and playful and doesnt feel overly serious. And I like that he is trying something out, proposing my eyes something new, and not making me being bored of repetition.
I didnt think of Chanel when looking at this. I totally think of Vacarello. He does it his way and I really appreciate it. You can all count on me running around like this and feeling super confident and sexy.

The Pavlovsky comment makes me smiling down on him. So many many other designers did tweed and Chanel-esque collections and he never mind it because they were bad or didnt even touch the REAL competition territory. You never mind and comment on something that doesnt bother you right? But here, he does feel very attacked. I feel big big jealousy in his words, because he can feel the freshness of the collection and he feels it looks fudging good. If he is so confident of his current collections and that his clients "know who's the original" he would never have to mention it. So no wonder he commented on this topic, big compliment for Vacarello. And not smart of Pavlovsky, it gives very desperate feelings which makes the whole current Chanel situation more unsexy for me.
