Sarah Burton - Designer, Creative Director of Givenchy

I would recommend a Givenchy wedding dress from Sarah. Taste tbh. Who else is there ?

I mean I guess it tracks. Kate Middleton's dress was designed by Burton at McQueen and Markle's by Waight-Keller at Givenchy, so I can imagine it could be a mixture of the two of them.

Her first menswear collection for Givenchy just dropped online aaaand...that's basically her Mcqueen with sloppier tailoring!
Show this blazer to anyone from the fashion pack and they would tell you this is a typical embroidered Mcqueen black suit jacket.
I know Givenchy menswear is nowadays associated to chav / logo bomber jackets but come on now, there is no vision in this.

The only decent item from the collection is this couture cocoon trench coat, but, again, this could be mistaken for a piece from her Mcqueen tenure.
And by the way...4k for a trench coat by Givenchy...MADE IN PORTUGAL? Are people from LVMH out of their minds? That's where Jacquemus / Balmain outsource most of their RTW, not a country you would associate to a former couture house owned by the most relevant and important fashion group in the world.
Fun fact: had the same trench coat being manufactured in Italy / France it would have costed max 200€ and they could have easily sold at 4,5k and still overcome the increased production cost.
If she gets her contract renewed after a fiasco tenure, complete irrelevancy in the fashion conversation and no PR endorsement I swear I'm gonna cry and ask Matthew Williams to come back.

i see her attempting to create a fully new and independent design language but also putting out a lot of filler.

Yeah that trench is nice. She never did things like this at McQueen. That exuberant draping on the trench is so exquiste like wow. Never seen a mens trench like that so its worth whatever they want to charge. Im not sure if I want it though.

Like look how the line from the collar goes all the way through the torso pocket to the hem. Masterful construction.

The trench is gorgeous. But the rest of her vision for menswear needs to follow if they want this to go anywhere.

It’s still quite flat and uninspired.

The Canadian price is $8,550 -- even though 3900 EUR is 6321 CAD -- which includes "duties" but not "taxes" ... so the final DDP checkout price to Canada is $9,662.

Meanwhile I have a Brioni overcoat made of perhaps the most sumptuous cashmere-silk tweed I've ever handled, and it retailed for us$7K (ca$11K) just a few years ago, which seemed astonishing at the time.

I dont know how this look made it out of the runway 🤣 oh sarah... the way u can make that amazing coat and that sponge dress in a span of 1 week.

For those complaining about her menswear... have you guys seen what's been being offered everywhere else these days? There was nothing wrong with her mcqueen menswear anyway. Always a good mix of basic stuff and well embelished/tailored suits and coats.

Yes, her Mcqueen menswear was great indeed. The tailoring looked immaculate and so sharp. It was a bit one trick pony with the black and the embellishments but I can get it for a low tier brand whose primary business is not menswear.
On the other hand, her Givenchy menswear looks really sloppy and the tailoring is a bit all over the place. One would have expected her to deliver more tailored solutions in a couture house with more skilled artisans, but so far the Givenchy is giving sloppier Mcqueen "see it once and you know what you gonna get for the rest of her tenure".

i hope its just growing pains... her tailoring is still great. But definitely always something off in her Givenchy so far, not just menswear. As opposed to her laser precision at mcqueen.
