Nicola Formichetti Named Creative Director of Thierry Mugler

congrats for him!! but I totally have no idea how Thierry will be, Nicola's styling is not easy to match this brand for me.

I love him as a stylist, but that doesn't always translate to working for a fashion brand. I am hoping for the best though. This means we will be seeing Gaga in a lot of Mugler.

Ou, GaGa sounds like a very Mugler girl. Let's just see what he'll come up with.

It will be interesting to see how he makes the transition from stylist to designer. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what he comes up with.

Well, being a creative director doesn't necessarily mean that he will actually design. That's what the head designers are for. Maybe it's just an extension of the stylist job. Creating a certain mood for the house.

The actual designing is left to the head designers and their respective teams.

Though I think, he could spice things up, since that old designer did a very boring job.

For what??? Mugler's heyday was circa 20 years ago. What's the point of trying to "reinvigorate" this brand?
And let me guess, Lady Gaga will appear in the ads.

Hmmmm, I wonder what we will se during Paris fashion week. This sounds like it could be very interesting

I think creative director could be a good role for him as he will ideally lead the design team in a certain direction and aide in the editing process but I do worry that he is stretching himself quite thin and this could affect the quality of the outcome. The Haus of Gaga stuff must eat up loads of time, plus his work for Vogue Japan. I'm also not convinced his aesthetic really blends with Mugler but I will save final judgment until we see what he can produce

i can see this being huge.
the clothing being produced under his name recently has been the farthest thing from the original mugler. i can't say formichetti will be true to the design sensibilities, but i do predict insane runway productions. it's totally what this house needs to survive. and being formichetti, you know it's going to get a lot of editorial coverage.

I don't really know what to think of this. But I know that I can expect somethin surreal and amazing, coming from Nicola. I also know that its gonna make a lot of noises in the Fashion offices. Can't wait to see Gaga in one of his super exagerated designs. Or making a surprise appearance at one of his shows, THAT would be huge!

I'm not especially interested in Mugler being resurrected, but will Romain Kremer be working here and at his own label, I wonder. It'd be a shame if he quit his line, but I can definitely see that happening as it'd be tough to do both when his own company is so young.

Which is essentially what Mugler himself was doing until his departure in the late 90s/early 00s...

I guess there won't be much change then.

Hardly, at the end of the day Mugler had beautifully crafted and extremely wearable clothes that echoed the extravagance of his runway spectacle.

This smells like a disaster.

Oooh, actually didn't read the bit about Sebastian, makes the whole thing much less scary.

Thierry Mugler S.A.S names Nicola Formichetti Creative Director

Paris, September,13th, 2010

Thierry Mugler S.A.S has named Nicola Formichetti Creative Director of its men’s and women’s ready-
to-wear beginning with the Fall/Winter 2011/12 collections. Nicola Formichetti, 33, is on the cutting
edge of international pop culture. From his start as a stylist and a consultant he has become an
immensely diverse talent who combines a feeling for what’s next with a seemingly limitless sense of
high fashion fantasy.

For Thierry Mugler S.A.S, Formichetti will lead a new design structure including Sébastien Peigné as
Head Designer Women and Romain Kremer as Head Designer Men.
Sébastien Peigné, 30, has spent the past ten years working with Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga
where he became head of the studio in 2006. Romain Kremer, 28, launched his eponymous collection
in 2005 after winning a prize at Hyères’ Festival International de Mode et de Photographie.

“We were looking for a young talent who could really bring new energy to the brand. Thierry Mugler
has an incredibly rich heritage, which means we must always innovate, create something new, daring
and special,” says Joël Palix, President of Clarins Fragrance Group and Director General of Thierry
Mugler S.A.S. “Nicola is a multicultural, techno-savvy expert involvedin fashion, communication,
image and entertainment. He and the appointed talented designers will represent a new direction for
French fashion”

Nicola Formichetti’s touch is everywhere at the moment from the outrageous style (videos, tours and
general looks) of Lady Gaga to the mass appeal imagery for Japan’s Uniqlo where he is Fashion
Director. The Italian - Japanese born Fashion Director of Vogue Hommes Japan is also a contributing
fashion editor of V Magazine, VMAN and Dazed & Confused.

“Thierry Mugler is about the power of glamour and walking straight into the future,” says Formichetti.
He’s been a god for successive generations in the fashion industry. He fused pop and high fashion,
told a story in style and combined fantasy with reality. My approach is personal and always very
eclectic. I’d like to find new ways for a luxury brand such as Thierry Mugler to excite people.”

Thierry Mugler is a legendary French fashion house launched by its name sake designer in Paris in
1974 when he was 25. Known for his hyper-femininity, the extreme precision of his cuts and sense of
fantasy and futurism, Thierry Mugler brought a shock to the world of fashion which spearheaded him
to success and brought the return of sculptural elegance to fashion. Mugler continued to dominate the
world of fashion with fabulously staged shows throughout the 1980s and 90s, which set in motion the
new era of fashion spectacle. He has gone on to create a series of successful scents with Clarins
notably Angel (1992), his first, bottled in a crystal star, which quickly became and remains one of the
world’s top ten fragrances. The smashing success of Angel marked the beginning of a legacy which
now includes such fragrances as A*Men, created in 1997, Alien, created in 2005, and most recently
launched Womanity in 2010.

bumping this cause i don't know where else to post this:
not only i find that the born this way video is basically a 7 minutes commercial for mugler by formichetti, now this (lol:(

ladygaga Lady Gaga
I'm making my debut as a runway model, walking in the MUGLER PARIS FASHIONSHOW 3/2. I directed the show music, previewing Government Hooker.

I want to vomit.
That is such a marketing ploy. I absolutely hate when actors/actresses/musicians/anyone-not-a-model models clothing for the purpose only of buzz. I don't care who it is.

This leads me to believe the collection is tragic already if Formichetti feels the need to let her walk.

Again, I vomit.

^ yeah i find it pretty pathetic too. first the born this way video with his model-zombie-muse and her in the same attire/'makeup', now this. next thing you know she'll be the new face of mugler in ads.

not to mention her whole 'alien' image suspiciously reminds me of mugler's 'alien' fragrance, but that might be a stretch.

Humm, you're right ! And if I can remember, didn't he or she or both of them say she had an involvement in the designs of womenswear ?

It's all to hyped up. That menswear show was nowhere near brilliant, but because of the hyped, the "monsters" thought it was the best thing ever to happen. And that's what makes me sick the most.
