I'm trying to make this tweed bag and i've never made a bag before
does anyone know what i should do to give it a structured side and edges?

^I just made a tote bag with my grandma :D We used needlepoint canvas.
Sometimes this canvas comes in plastic or a hard fabric

You can also use interfacing. It's this soft stuff that you iron on (it's used for things like zippers, collars, etc. for structure). But tweed is already kind of heavy, so you could just fold it over twice...

i dont think they do this to bags..but you can use boning for structure
what kind of bag are you making?

medium sized standard rectagular shaped
kind of like the vuitton antigua bag, but in tweed, because i just had a random need for a tweed bag :p
this is why i love making my own stuff, you can fulfill (almost) any random need

im pretty sure the tweed can stand on it's own with out boning and such
ask people at the fabric store if you need anything else

are you going to use a pattern for this?
i see patterns in simplicity or mccall's that you can use
it should tell you what you need on the pattern package

*ok . . i need your help guys!
all you sewing enthusiasts out there!?
i'm trying to alter a jackt at the moment
mainly shrinking it down . . .
it's very very big & i'm very small in comparison
so what is the best way to do this?
should i pull the whole thing apart . .?
that could be a major disaster!
OR shall i just try & retrace the seams & pull everything in tighter?
i need help people!
:flower:

that's an awsome site stacyyyy!
maybe i ll try it sometime XD

what does the jacket look like i_<3_chanel?

i'm new to making purses. not including stuff i made growing up. a couple months ago i started making & selling these-

i am working on a few different shapes, something tiny & delicate and something slightly more boxy. i want the call those ones "the Big Bruiser". hehe.

Wow, they're gorgeous ^_^ (susie bought the first one didn't she?)

How do they open? The opening looks bunched up and there's no room to let it open.

oh! i've made something like this before.
it's just like a 'drawstring bag'
you put a strip of fabric or string on the edge of the bag's hole, fold the fabric over shut, and sew it closed.
Then you just pull on the strap or string to close the bag

I'm guessing this is what the handle does.

wow.swandiamondrose.that first bag is amazing.exactly the sort of thing i like.jealous.

i might go and buy some material tomorrow and make the dress
im a little aprehensive as i havent sewn in so long

Like someone else has said, you can just use sew-in or iron-in interfacing. It is sold with different weights so you can find the heavyness that best suits your fabric.

wow..those bags look awsome, swan!
the last bag's fabric looks so pretty :)

thank you very much everybody! :flower:

J'aime_la_mode- the braid is just a braid, nothing too special there ;) but actually it is quite hard to work onto the rings, i don't know how to explain it. you braid it on then you fiddle with it like crazy.

Hye Park Lover- yes i made one of these for susie_bubble and she wrote it up in her blog.

gius- the top is elasticized it stretches open.

and thanks stacyyyy & muxu

SwanDiamondRose: I must say..gorgeous and well-made bags!

I haven't sewn anything from scratch since junior high, and that was an ugly bag.
This was my attempt on a dress with a matching hairband though...you can say it's a bit inspired by the Chloe SS 2006 dress =)

Oh! I thought someone was asking how to make the bags SDR posted :D Now I see that you actually made them! Wow! They look so professional--i didn't think they were homemade :woot::heart: !

The dress is very pretty also, GC ^_^ I like the silhouette
Is the fabric embossed?
