:woot: looks really great, mia !!! i've seen hedi wear something like those XD
love the clean cuffs too

Awesome! :woot: You're a...

jeanious!

Seriously, really nice job... love the scrunching at the knees, the diagonal back belt loop, the pocket bags... kapai!

Mia excellent work. How long did it take to make the pattern etc., start to finish?

Please excuse my ignorance, but why did the jeans had to have curves? Why is it not the ordinary shape?

perhaps i am...

rightguard - pattern took maybe 1/2 hour, worked off one of my old jean patterns and just changed the leg shape... origional pattern prob took about 1.5 hours. stitching took about 2.5 hours . putting donut buttons and rivets in took way too long as i didnt have a punch and had to precariously use a concrete nail and a hammer

thanxs tangerine :flower: though id rather be jeannie than jeanious :p

the curves create excess fabric in areas that when worn turns into controlled stacking. if they were a standard/straight leg the stacking/gathering would all collect toward the bottom with gravity/movement.
if you look at classic tailoring, trousers often had subtle curves cut into the leg to accomodate the way the wearer stood, walked, sat. not many people spend much time standing with their legs paralell so they were cut to look good in a natural pose/stance.
playing with fabric and how it can fall and respond to different manipulations is the fun part of pattern drafting and designing...
c.c.p has been working with extreme leg curvings for a while as did/where perplex and lola a couple of years ago

mia, fantastic:wub:
i adore all - the concept, execution & esplanation:woot:

Right now I am practicing making my own designs, but with really cheap fabrics. I just want to get the pattern making right first, before I take the plunge.

my qualm: Is it possible to ALTER trousers to EXPAND the waist? (the rest fits perfectly, but needs two inches at the waist) Would the tailor think I'm looney?

it's difficult because the difference is a lot. My only suggestion is to make the waist lower since it gets bigger as you move towards the hips. Hopefully it's not a hiphugger style and you have enough leg length at the bottom to compensate for the shortage. Get a tailor's advice...

Those look good Mia!

Here is a dress I finished today. It is braided at the straps and under the bust. The straps tie in a halter in back, and the sash ties as well :) PS I got this mannequin on e-bay for $50!

This is a very interesting thread, I like to see what people have made! Many of you are very talented. I like the jeans, very well made.

just completed my first (second counting the pj shorts i made..) sewing project today! a simple tee shirt dress. it's navy and has a sort of boatneck, and hits an inch or so above the knee. i was hoping to buy one from american apparel or someplace like that but figured it would be easy to make, and i am taking sewing in school, so it made sense to sew it myself. hopefully my next project will be something a little more interesing...any suggestions? (remember, i am a beginner!)

So I just bought a sewing machine today. It's hard looking masculine when you're pushing a cart with this huge purple box in it. It's not even a dark purple either. Right now I'm playing with the feet and tools. Lets hope I don't sew my fingers into a baseball glove, huh?

good luck brian
let's see what you'll make :p
