I'm just a beginner and I haven't practiced in a while. Lovely designs. I needed the motivation anyway. :flower:

pastry, your collection is amazing! Did you show it at school or just for friends? Are you going to sell it? I'm also in high school and I would love to do something like that!

I took an ugly, frumpy and big goodwill top, cut it up, the re-sewed it into a cropped vest adding a floral panel down the front and red ribbing :) total cost was about $4!! I plan to wear it over a dress or fitted white t-shirt

criticsdarling that's very pretty
is the floral panel from another fabric, that you just sewed on to the shirt?

Rightguard I'd like to learn how to make shoes too. Some materials it seems a bit hard to get a hold of, and they also sometimes use toxic substances to adhere the shoe to the heel...
hopefully I can just use Carpenter's Glue hehehe

I was thinking about it for some time. I'll keep ssearching for books etc. to kind of teach my self:D if I eventually make something you guys will be the first to see.

Looks good, Rightguard, but... oh!! Don't buy any books yet  You might be able to find info for free! Try checking your library first. Look at costume books too.
The reason I say to look around first is because sometimes you might find a book that will have methods you don't like (for example, using toxic materials, etc.). I was looking at that link you gave. The guy seems to really do it professionally--you can see he's using scary machines and stuff LOL.
I found a really simple one online... http://www.marywalesloomis.com/ You can also purchase her book through PAYPAL! :woot: But you can only make pumps and flats with this book. At least she teaches you how to make your own last out of plaster of paris :)

Thanks to everyone for the kind compliments :)

guis~ yep, I took a scrap of a woven fabric to make sort of a "ribbon" and sewed it on.

Here is a cowl neck top I made yesterday. The white lace is a vintage table runner, to be honest haha. But I like how it turned out...kinda artsy :)

^ I like it :woot:

i was wondering for any advice...i would like to try and start sewing something while i have nothing on for a while (and i think i wont have my copmuter for a while so it will be perfect) - anyway, could someone give me advice on something easy and for starters? perhaps a website with some kind of template or something...

thanks

hey papergown - i can't believe you can so amazingly well when you're in grade 11! that is some serious talent!!

would you mind telling me which model/brand sewing machine you use?

i used to sew alot and want to get back into it when i get a new machine, the one i have now only goes in reverse haha, there are some things i would like to buy, but for the most part i'm sure i can do better as far as quality and design than what i see in stores that i can afford

great thread!

i made some stuff
like corsets and dresses

but recently i find more fun at taking apart second hand clothes and just have fun with cutting them up and sewing details on
(for my portfolio)

ok..so here is the corset i made for my grade 11 fashion and creative expression class

nothing out of the ordinary..i didnt make up my own patter..i used a simplicity pattern..but i didnt follow the instructions (i didnt like how they did it)...and i added some ruffles and a bow

i ll post the men's shirts i "altered" from old clothes later on when i have enough to do a photoshoot out of
