THE model that Tyson Beckford allegedly "created" is back in town and having few problems picking up modelling gigs.
Shanina Shaik is back in Sydney to shoot a campaign for Just Jeans as part of a three-year deal and tells Confidential she is "single and happy".
"There's lots of time for that in the future but for now I am totally committed to my career and making the most of each opportunity," she said.
"I'm happy to be back in Australia and look forward to working with Just Jeans and catching up with friends and family,"
Beckford caused a stir earlier this year when, in an interview with a US magazine, he said: "I helped place her with the right people, get her teeth cleaned, her body toned up.
"Everything changed and now everyone wants a piece of her. I hear people say, 'You can do better than Tyson.' "I'm like, 'Really? Really? I created her!'."

SHE'S shaken up global catwalks with her exotic looks, now Shanina Shaik is launching a fashion assault on home soil.
Wearing the international uniform of models - loose, white T-shirt, black tights and high-tops - Shanina Shaik gives the distinct impression she didn't put too much thought into her outfit this morning. Still, she looks abnormally glamorous compared to everyone else in the room as she's prepped for sunday magazine's photoshoot.
Relatively unknown in Australia, Shaik has emerged as one of our best modelling exports after walking the runway for Victoria's Secret, Oscar de la Renta and Vivienne Westwood. Now she's conquering home-shores, too, signing as the new face of iconic Australian denim brand Just Jeans.
"I've always been a jeans and T-shirt kind of girl," she says. "Every casting I go to, I wear jeans, boots and a tee; that's who I am."

"Shanina is the perfect fit," says Just Jeans group manager Georgia Chewing. "From her down-to-earth manner, inner beauty, sense of humour and incredible personal style to her love of Australia."
We last chatted with Shaik in December 2011, when she was still on a high from her Victoria's Secret runway debut in November. Six months later, she's cemented herself in a notoriously tough industry, landing high-end runway shows for Chanel and Tom Ford, as well as numerous editorials including Australian Vogue and American teen magazine Seventeen.
"It's been a huge six months for me: I shot for Vogue, walked in fashion weeks and did the Victoria's Secret catalogue," she says. "Some people said I couldn't do high-fashion, > but I walked for Oscar de la Renta, Stella McCartney and Vivienne Westwood [during New York Fashion Week]. Then I went to Paris and booked more shows."
It's quite a rise for the 21-year-old from Melbourne who launched her modelling career in Kmart and Target catalogues at the age of eight. "I hope they don't dig up that old stuff," she chuckles.
Shaik left modelling behind when she started high school to focus on her studies. But she had a change of heart at 17 and auditioned for season one of the short-lived reality show Make Me a Supermodel.
She may have finished runner-up to Rhys Uhlich, but in contrast to Uhlich, who's landed a few TV gigs since, her modelling career has flourished.
"It's been a whirlwind since the show ended," she says. "So much can happen in four years. Sometimes I have to sit back and think about what I've achieved.
"Looking at where I've come from, I believe in myself more now," she adds. "I used to think I wouldn't ever make it to New York, now I live there. I've even gone further - I'm modelling in Europe. These are huge achievements."
Although Shaik is enjoying her success, she struggles with the jet-set lifestyle modelling demands.
"I'm always packing or shooting," she explains. "My job is 24/7. You're always 'on'.
I feel so much more relaxed when I'm in Australia. I love New York but, recently, I've been so homesick." She sighs. "Home makes me feel like Shanina again."
Sitting nearby, watching from the sidelines, is Shaik's mother, Kim. In the country for a couple of weeks at a time, Shaik relishes every moment she spends with family before jetting back to her New-York life - complete with a care package including Vegemite and Tim Tams.
"I love having Mum at my shoots," she beams. "She's been my biggest supporter and it's so rare to have her with me when I work. She gives me this special energy when we're together."
It's little wonder she's been feeling the pull of home. A few weeks before our shoot, Shaik split from her boyfriend of two years, American actor and model Tyson Beckford.
Not long before their break-up was announced, Beckford, who's 20 years her senior, told the UK's Evening Standard he was responsible for Shaik's modelling success. He claimed that after meeting her on Make Me a Supermodel (where he was a judge), he introduced her to the right people in the industry and helped her achieve her enviable body.
"When I found her, she was a regular girl," he said. "Everything changed and now everyone wants a piece of her. I hear people say, 'You can do better than Tyson.' I'm like, 'Really? I created her!'"
But Shaik remains unfazed. "Jobs aren't handed to me on a silver platter; it's a lot of hard work," she says. She maintains her relentless schedule was the main reason for the split.
"I'm too busy to be in a relationship," she says. "I'm constantly on a plane. There's no time to dedicate to anything else other than my family, friends and career."
Hopefully, this dedication will secure her another Victoria's Secret runway show this year. But she admits there's a lot of preparation to be done if she's to match the other models on the catwalk.
"After seeing the hard work the [Victoria's Secret] Angels put in, I'm going to begin training a bit earlier this time," she laughs. "Castings are in October, so I'll start in August. I'll have to go hard with the cardio."
She also plans to curb her guilty pleasure - her sweet tooth - before then. "I might be a model, but I love food," she enthuses. "If you want to get to my heart, just give me chocolate. Or chocolate-chip cookie dough. And I'm an ice-cream monster."
Despite all the training and travel, Shaik has no regrets about the path she's chosen. "Sometimes I think about what I'd do if I weren't modelling," she says. "But something inside me always said there were bigger and better things out there for me."
