Shoe sizing

Many of us buy their Designer Shoes online to save money so I think we should share how they run.

I`ll start:

YSL Rive Gauche: run VERY narrow
Gucci: quite "long"
Sergio Rossi: run big - I always take a half size smaller than my actual size
Emporio Armani: perfectly normal
Louis Vuitton: normal (Sneakers run big)

Is it true that Prada also run big and one should always take a half size smaller?

yes, prada shoes tend to run on the larger side and you should get about a half or sometimes even a whole size smaller than what you'd normally wear in other designers shoes...

Different countries have different kinds of lasts for shoes... So I'm sure that whatever country the shoes are produced in.. that is the way the shoe will fit. Back in my first semester I had a class where we went over all the quirks of the accessories industry. Shoes from japan are supposedly the closes to US sizes... Italians run narrow... I can't remember them all.. I'll have to dig out my old notebooks.

gucci varies. closed toe run smaller, sandals are normal...sometimes they will run long and/or narrow depending on the style.
manolo blahnik normal
louis vuitton normal
chanel normal
tod's all over the place
chloe... i have their flats and they're a half size big

from my own personal experience louis vuitton's shoes (especially mens) tend to run at least one size larger...

...and chanel's shoes tend to run half to a full size smaller

hm i think this may just vary from person to person... what's normal for one may be too big/too small for another, but my personal experience with womens LV runway shoes is that they are pretty true to size. i've sized up and down in them and have had to return them each time until i stuck with my regular size... likewise with chanel.

i agree with that. it's always much better to go in person and try them on to see for yourself.

Marc Jacobs are width generous. accurate sizing.
Jimmy choos run half a size small but are super comfy and can be worn ALL day.
Gina are just perfect
Celine, another acurrate fitting
Michael kors runs slighly narrow

My experience has been:

chloe- runs small. buy 1/2 size bigger
chanel- true to size
Manolo- sandals and d'orsays run true to size. The Carolyne slingbacks run small- buy 1/2 size bigger. Some pumps run large and some run small-it depends on the shoe.
jimmy choo-true to size
dior- true to size
louis vuitton- runs big- buy 1/2 size smaller
prada- all over the place-no consistency

My experience has been that sizing depends as much on the style as on the designer, and probably even more on the manufacturer the designer chooses to produce the particular shoes (and we'll NEVER know that! ). For instance, sandals usually have more "give" than clogs, right? Well, I have a pair of YSL sandals in size 41.5 that are WAY tighter than my YSL clogs in size 41.

But there's one other thing that really confuses me: sometimes I'll try on a shoe in a store, and it is a fine fit, but next morning at home I can hardly squeeze my foot in it. So what's the best time of day to try on shoes?

^ oh emery i know what you mean about the feet swelling/shrinking... i read about it somewhere but forgot what time...

the best time to try on shoes is in the morning, because at the end of the day your feet are all swollen and such from walking around.

AHA! I've got it! At night your feet are swollen, but they have been constructively molded into shoe shape. In the morning they shrink back, but they're in natural-foot shape and don't like to be re-molded!

Valentines comes and I get taken to Harvey Knicks for shoes. I pick up a pair of Choo's and bwoy am I smitten. I had the sales girl asking me if knew my size in J.C, I shot a smart look as if to say did you not notice what I wore in! Anyway, get my shoes home and go to sleep and wake up first thing in the morning with a desire to try them on in my boudoir only to find I could not squeeze my feet in them! I was on the edge of hysteria and if it wasn't for that morning clock ticking I would have been rooted to the spot in distress.
Anyway, its a good thing I went off to work because upon my return, my choo's fitted once more like a dream.
