Release date (US/CAN) - 21 September 2010

Nothing comes between Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) and her bargains. Neither act of God nor budget crunch can shatter her dreams of wall-to-wall Prada. Every milestone in her well-shopped life (travel, long-lost sister, marriage, pregnancy) inspires new vistas to explore in the name of retail therapy. But now she faces her greatest little challenge yet: Becky’s two-year-old daughter, Minnie.

While motherhood has been everything Becky dreamed it would be—Baby Dior, Little Marc Jacobs, and Dolce & Gabbana for toddlers—adorable Minnie is wreaking havoc everywhere she goes, from Harrods to her own christening. Her favorite word is “MINE!” and her penchant for Balenciaga bags, Chanel sunglasses, and online purchases has no rival under age five.

Becky is at her wits end. On top of this, she and her husband Luke are still living with her parents. Thankfully it appears house buying attempt number four is a go! Until a huge financial crisis causes panic everywhere, and nobody wants to shop—not Becky’s personal shopping clientele, not her friends, nobody. And with Luke in the doldrums, it’s time for Becky to step in—with a party: A surprise birthday party for Luke (on a budget) is the perfect antidote to everyone’s woes. At first.

Will Becky manage to keep the party of the year a surprise? Can she hire jugglers, fire-eaters, and acrobats at a discount? Will enlisting the help of Luke’s unflappable assistant to convince him to have another baby realize her dream of matching pom-poms? Will Minnie find a new outlet for her energetic and spirited nature (perhaps one with sixty percent markdowns)? She is, after all, a chip off the old shopping block. And everyone knows a committed shopper always finds a way.

Can't wait to read this, I've got all the books.

I love these books so much so after watching the trailer to the first movie, I vowed never to watch the film. No offense to Americans but I could not believe they Americanised (word?) it. They should have kept the characters as they were and should have filmed it in the UK.

Are they really making 'Can You Keep A Secret?' into a film?

^ It was rumoured like early 2000s that Kate Hudson was going to be in "Can You Keep A Secret". It was even on her IMDB page for ages but nothing came of it.

I'll watch a Kate Hudson chick flick anyday but I just can't picture her as Emma or with an accent. There are plenty of up and coming british actresses that could play the part. Plus the guy is the American so there's your US audience.

It's not even on the IMDB pages anymore so it's safe to assume it's been shelved.

Eeeek. I don't know if I want to read the new book. Her daughter sounds like a spoiled brat.

That new book looks cute.

I've read the number 1-4 of these books. Love the first three, but I really disliked the 4th book shopaholic and sister, that's why I stopped reading the books.

Maybe I should try and read the baby one, see how it is.

Btw have anyone here seen the Shopaholic movie? I haven't, but it doesn't seem it was that good an adaptation.

^ After I read the 4th book again I liked it more. It grows on you. It's the book where Becky really grows up and she's a bit more mature in the 5th (she's still crazy addicted to shopping though). I really like the ying yang intro of Jess. Her storyline gets a bit interesting in the 5th too.

My advice is if you really love the book series then don't see the movie. The Shopaholic movie thread is here -

hm, I'll give the 5th book a try when I finish reading the book I'm reading now. Thanks, I'll take a look at that thread.

I have bought most of the books and I can't wait to start reading once I have finished Eat Pray Love.

Has anyone read the new book? I just went on Amazon to order it and there's mixed reviews for it. I'm hesitant to order it now.
